And another view of the dam; I returned there two weeks after the first trip, because I felt I needed to try using a wider lens. Apparently in two weeks things change a lot, the dam is facing north, so it get very few sun. The first time the sun was almost lighting the full dam at the very end of the afternoon. The second time, there was just a slit of light :

We had an incredible storm saturday evening; it lasted about two hours and the lightning and thunder followed each others in short sequences. It was spectacular. Here is one example I could catch. The storm crossed the valley from left to right.. I tried to make a composite, but it didn't come out very good because the colors of the lightning was changing.. Sometimes the sky almost turned magenta.. sometimes it was more blue/green.

After the storm, a moon crescent rose just between the two castles. Since the camera was already set, I gave it a snap too.

Low light, with the car popping! Nice. I suggest strengthening (IMO) the composition by cropping out the OOF bits of the F/G, and the white or grey box on the RHS—the figures on the left are interesting and shouldn’t be cropped, even if they lead the eye that way. If there’s any more sky available …

Thanks Karl, it does doesn't it ....Yet the truth was completely different!....the surfers were out in their hundreds making the most of the ideal conditions.
I had to climb down off of the grassy platform as it was too spongy and windy for the tripod for multiple long exposures to the firmer rocky ledge below...Alison lowered down my gear to me.
I was now much nearer to the Atlantic Ocean where I could now encompass the rocks, yet I could still include the horizion (21mm Loxia) but not the sun that was causing havoc with flare from sea spray on the lens.
The waves were crashing in at about ten feet in height literally just below me causing the sea to boil a few feet away causing all that lovely blurry white foam.
I tried several versions (mixing up the settings and exposure)...By the time I was finished me and my gear were looking pretty wet and caked in salt water.
I hope you enjoy the pic...I worked pretty hard for that one (and a few others yet to come)....Cheers Barry

Many thanks Barry. What an effort and story!
I hope your gear didn't suffer from the salt water!
How do you clean your gear after a torture session like this?

I am curious now what a single shot of the crashing waves looks like.
    Thanks again.

Thanks Karl, I just wash/wipe down my gear with a wet (freshwater) cloth and air dry.

I couldn't help playing around your picture in PS (hope you don't mind) I found out darkening the sky a little made the picture more moody. It made this perfect picture even more perfect to me.

Some pics from the prestigious Concours d'Elegance at Windsor Castle, UK. I took the M240 and ZM50 1.5 and seemed to get into the flow with these but I took the A7RII with the Voigtlander 35mm 1.2 II which I thought would be the more useful fl Here are some from that combo.

Thank you for your suggestion.. I'll try it. Here is another of the same day, I darkened the sky a little in this one. As a note : this lightning striked the church tower of a mountain ressort. Here are a few pictures of the damage : http://www.lenouvelliste.ch/articles...572856?image=2

Thank you ! it is always interesting to see how other postprocess. It is ok for me too, save in the upper right corner where it has become a little too dark for my taste, making that part a little too heavy. But in the middle, where the lightning comes from it makes things a little more contrasty and that suits me. I was lucky because that was an incredible storm which lasted a long time and occurred right in front of me. That kind of even is quite rare here, especially with that kind of intensity. Modern cameras like the A7rm2 makes it much easier to catch such pictures. My only regret is that I underexposed the pictures in my haste to set up everything and not miss a lightning. Had I know it would last that long, I'd have taken my time and shot several test pictures. Happily the A7rm2 deliver incredible malleable files..

    It's absoltely an outstanding capture.

Another tripod+"smooth reflections" experiment. Taken earlier tonight near my home.

For those curious, here's what the scene actually looked like! Cheers.

Thanks for sharing both. That's a fantastic landscape.. Personnally, I don't like what the app does to the clouds. And the water looks nice, but I prefer the more realist look of the second picture.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

As always, thanks for the comments, Annna.

The app mimics long exposures by combining several short exposures, so the funniness of the clouds is basically the clouds moving across the frame. I did think about combining the water of the first with the clouds of the second, but I'm not sure that I care enough on an image that doesn't do much for me. I may try the scene again under more interesting lighting conditions!

Incidentally, what has inspired me as of late are the abstract landscape paintings of the Canadian artist Lawren Harris: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawren_Harris

My first "shot" above was an attempt at recreating a similar atmosphere to that found in his work.

    Intriguing light, Barry! Nice catch!

Here's a more heavily cropped one from last night, with a color palette and processing to better reflect the mood I was trying to achieve.
