    Graham:
'A dark night in the desert' is the stuff of nightmares, well done! That beastly Rokinon sure does work well for wide field astrophotography, doesn't it? No coma!

    Barry:
'Wistman's Wood II' is the stuff of fairy tales, well done! I really love your choice of pseudo infrared and palladium toning - perfect for the scene.

    Joe:
As Barry said, your lovely macro shots are somewhere in between, well done!

The app mimics long exposures by combining several short exposures, so the funniness of the clouds is basically the clouds moving across the frame. I did think about combining the water of the first with the clouds of the second, but I'm not sure that I care enough on an image that doesn't do much for me. I may try the scene again under more interesting lighting conditions!

Incidentally, what has inspired me as of late are the abstract landscape paintings of the Canadian artist Lawren Harris: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawren_Harris

My first "shot" above was an attempt at recreating a similar atmosphere to that found in his work.

Just as info : I don't like what long exposure is doing to the clouds in my pictures either.. So it just comes as a question of taste. I'll have a look at that Canadian artist; I didn't know him.

Modern cameras and the developing of new apps is changing what one can do with photography a lot. For me not all is a benefit. Lately for instance I was questioning my night pictures : the photo result is made very appealing, but it doesn't correspond to what you really see with naked eyes : in reality, the picture should be much darker; the camera really see in the dark things your naked eyes can't. There is also the question of the white balance. We are accustomed to see the night "blue" but in reality, it is much more grayish. If I was presenting the castle pictures nearer to reality, they won't get as many likes ... This right now is bothering me..

Joe, you are taking wonderful pictures where everything is perfect... but don't expect me to put a like on a bug picture, because saying that I like a bug would be a lie. Hope you will forgive me, it has nothing to do with your pictures, only with the subject.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

I do like going to art galleries and exhibitions where I generally come away feeling inspired by other artists work, only wanting to try and do something a little bit more creative or different myself...I then asked myself the question what on earth could I possibly photograph within these bland minimalist white painted wall rooms, if this was my entire world!...the truth is not a lot
These images are the close-up imperfections in the white walls themselves where the light strikes a surface...it could be a stairwell, ceiling, floor etc...cobwebs, scuffs, scratches, particles in the paint itself, dried out old cracked paintwork joints etc...Anyway I'm sure you get the idea
All images Sony 35mm Distagon wide open at f/1.4 taken inside the "Newlyn Art Gallery" (Platinum Toned)...thanks for looking.

Thank you Barry for the comments and also the link to the video. I shot two versions as you noticed using the 45mm & 17mm TSE lenses.

This is at Silo City in Buffalo NY. Well worth coming along to the photo workshops here to gain access to the huge silos and amazing architecture.

Likewise thank you Graham - Liked them both :-)

It must be about 25 years ago when I last stayed in Buffalo...back then it was the usual tourist trail stuff...Niagra Falls etc...
As much as I love Cornwall and Devon Alison and myself would dearly love to travel again and hope to do again one day

Barry, I'll repeat what I said at Flickr : That a great minimalist series ! I like them very much. I wish I had taken them.. The geometric figures cast by the shadows more than the little imperfections is what draws my attention and makes them work for me. I find that they gain a lot when presented together side by side; on a (big) wall, you could group them 2x5 or 3x3. They look better at Flickr when you see them all together in the gallery, than here where you see them one by one.

Thank you Annna, for your very kind comments (both here and on Flickr)...glad you liked them
Light and shade are the main elements in this 10 image series, the imperfections are just secondary
As you say they would probably hang well altogether in rows...Thanks again

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

These past days, I've been visiting rest areas along the highway. I first got intrigued by a construction I was seeing with the corner of my eyes.. I found out that there are very impressive constructions in these rest areas which are mainly containing the toilets, plus a picnic place. After a first trip last week I looked at google maps to find out others.

Here are a few I photographed yesterday; first a general view.. yes, yes there are only the men's rooms and women's rooms in that imposing construction.

Sony A7rm2 and Loxia 21mm F2.8 (yes, yes.. I know, I have a hard time keeping everything level and orthogonal.

    AnnaT.....

What an extraordinary set of pics!!.....To English eyes these constructions are beyond strange! What does the ordinary Swiss person make of them?......Are they popular with the population?

........I then took a look at your flickr page......there are some VERY weird buildings in the Land of cowbells and chocolate!

........Or even in the Land of small arms and precision machine tools, come to that!

Thank you for your kind words and for your interest. I don't think that all the rest areas are so pompous and excessive. The two I photographed my well be unique samples. I suspect that the regional authorities participated in the financing (while usually the national roads are paid by the central government). When the highway was built (between 1988 and 1991 for this particular leg), there were at the same time great hopes (that the highway would bring more tourists) and great fears (that the people using the highway won't stop in Valais anymore). I think these extraordinary constructions reflect that. They wanted to show the region to the tourists : the toilets are located at the ground floor and when you go upstairs you get a good view of the region : the two castles of the city, the vineyards hanging from the slopes, the villages and their church towers and the mountains. I plan to visit a few other rest areas in order to confirm that impression, but the other ones I know are more modest.

Here are a few other views of the place :
