Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

Here ist one from the weekend. People like getting a swim here. With the beginning of the autumn the ducks reclaim the stones next to the bank. It was a very hazy day, so there where almoust no shadows and contrast. I start to love working with such pictures (it's from the same day as the Kreis 5 series).

    Reclaim the River
    (a7RII + Loxia21/2.8)

    Limmat

Barry: I like to be a part of both communities. But FM-Forums has a different quality to me. They are great in testing and the picture-thread is full of wonderful, perfectly processed pictures. But I like the more open-creative-testing character of this thread. We can be creative here and try out things. It's also much more familial here.

To JDPhoto: Thanks for your kind words.

To Annna: I love your Ruelle du Chapître shots. I would be happy to see more of these.

I'm pretty sure you can send to Flickr whatever maximum size image you like (Give it a try...try 1601px high or 1599px high)...I'm pretty sure you are not restricted to those particular sizes...but you are if you send it lets say a really large image and it will default to certain smaller sizes as you say.
    Hi Barry,

You are right concerning the sizes at Flickr, one can upload at any size. It comes from the way I'm dealing with my pictures : I upload all of them with the longes side equal to 2048 pixels, which fits the tablet resolution. For the pictures appearing at GetDPI, there was a limit at 1200 for the longest side, but once you have uploaded your pictures at Flickr, if you are using the BBcode to embedd a picture, then the choice of sizes offered for resampling is limited to what I said (longest side 1600 or 1024 and smaller). This avoids the need to upload the same picture at different size which I find useful.

If you follow the link to the picture at Flickr, you should be able to view it at the original size of 2048 ? Can you ?

The 55 is such a great lens.
It nears perfection on the A7RII.

Has to be easier w a lower pixel count.
I think several lenses would do the trick there.

Thank you The Ute, I love the 55mm too and here I was helped by the side light.
Thank you also for inquiring about my mother, you know she is 94 years old, so we don't expect her to go better; she is getting weaker from one day to the other, but she says she has no pains.

I like to look at your pictures, they bring back memories from a great travel I made there back in the nineties.

Annna, I didn't know until today that you were restricting/standardising your maximum image size to 2048px for your tablet.
Then yes, I agree you only have the two smaller Flickr resampled images (that are worth using) to work from, unless you decide to use the "Original" 2048px image and scroll about on your 1920x1080px display.
Just a suggestion but alternatively why not just add a "ENLARGEMENT" link like as I do, so viewers can go directly to the "Original" larger image and all the smaller versions...that is just a one click solution rather than having to go via your Flickr photostream first ENLARGEMENT

Barry, your three pictures of this evening are wonderful. For the first two, I prefer the color version. The third is fantastic.

We have a blue tongue lizard that lives with us. Today I noticed she has moved to under the house as she was out sun bathing.

Bokeh seems a little less “wiry” at f/2.8, unexpectedly.

A somewhat unusual subject for me but could not pass up the opportunity to capture this Rancher, horse, and his blue heeler riding in the canyon where I was hiking.

Australian breed! I had a Red Heeler (another colour variation) as a child around 1963, and ‘Freckles’ used to nip my mother’s Achilles Tendons while she was hanging out the washing—my mum was not amused.

He was a handsome little dog.
    Smart and athletic too.
He jumped up there all on his own.

Dave, that is very most kind of you
But actually I think it is I that owe both you and Mike E a big thanks, for carrying out the 12mm corner tests earlier, as I believe you had yours a bit before me and Mike was certainly the first person to get hold of one that I know of.
Thank you for sharing those earlier corner tests...much appreciated.
It's a fun lens which I really do like (as you say, especially for seascapes!)...I'm having a problem taking any other images with any other focal length at the moment...once I get it out of my system a normal service will resume
    Thanks again.

One from Newquay Harbour taken this afternoon with the 12mm Voigtlander

By contrast the Sony 35mm wide angle Distagon FE, shot wide open at F1.4 look almost like a Tele-photo

All shot with the 55mm 1.8. It's not bad as a portrait lens when cropped to approximately 85mm.

Mediumcool, I don't see pictures in your posts. All others are fine. I did also try another browser, but I still see no pictures. Can you tell me the source link of one of the pictures? Maybe I have a restriction to the linked website...

Barry, Kingsand is a wonderful shot. The roughness of the sky, the sea, stone and houses matches perfectly together.

That is weird! I recall one member having problems with my links while viewing on an iPad. My pic hosting is at mlkshk.com/user/mediumcool (click through to see each 900px-high full-size pix).

    What platform and OS?

Thanks for the link. Now I can look after the issue.

It's fine on my phone (android). The computer has win10 and I tried it with Firefox, Chrome, Edge. All three shows this:

The red dot is shown on each picture as a replacement...

Edit: It looks like your site is rated as "streaming media and download" at fortinet. These sites seemed to be blocked from our company.
I will try it at home tonight, where I decide what is blocked.

Very nice Barry. It's difficult to say which one I would prefer.

@Mediumcool: It worked fine at home. It's a restriction of my company. It's strange, because I can access everything. It's the first time I have blocked content. Anyway, I can have a look at home at your posts. That's fine.

Still no time to go out and shoot. The sky is overcast anyway. The only nice morning was on wednesday and there I was on the way to a conference. But I couldn't resist to try the CV12/5.6 on the ceiling of the entrance.

Like all three composition wise but if it were me I would darken the sky in the 1st one and add some saturation to it, and darken and saturate the entire image in the 3rd.

Here's the last of this recent shoot. I'm starting to think that the 55mm 1.8 might be the only lens I need other than super telephoto or architecture in tight locations. I have a Batis 25, but hardly use it!

I absolutely love the 55 and have the Batis 25 as well (I'm primarily a Landscape shooter).
Cropped I see no reason why as you show the 55 can't be an excellent portrait lens.
By the way, the young lady in your photos is lovely.

Thank you for the comments! I do like the Batis 25mm too, but for the work i've been doing recently the 55mm 1.8 is just perfect. Shooting wide is an art form in itself, i need more practice with landscapes! I'm tempted to rent a long tele and ultra wide just to play around a little.

That's fair enough, nothing wrong with that...I doubt either of us would process the same images in the same way.
You like to use saturation and I prefer to use vibrance in Landscape photography...I like my colours with a subtle boost to your more punchy vivid colours.
Neither of us is right or wrong, it's all subjective and just a matter of taste, thank you for your f'back.

    Thank you Christina,
Likewise happy memories of 40 years ago walking along and over the various beautiful bridges along the Arno river in Florence.
I also liked your earlier soft romantic processing treatment especially of this bridge (Ponte Santa Trinita), that one for me just suited classic Italy.
