Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

Got my camera back. Drove 4 hours to collect it because they did not want to guarantee it would be shipped today and on monday's not postal service. Had to do it.

All camera settings were changed so these shots were in JPG fine mode, not very good.
But the output of this Contax N zoom looks very promising. probably will take it with me on the trip. Colors are not what I want them to be. More tests tomorrow.
BTW I use the Kipon adapter.

These are from the city of Gouda. They were starting a children's marathon. All coincidence.

    Great news Michiel
Lovely to have you back here again, it's been a while
Only a A7R camera requires such extreme measures as a 4 hour drive
Perhaps you can persuade Werner from keep parading off his 135/f1.8 he's driving me nuts Cheers Barry

Really magical stuff! The cloud rays seem to be emanating from the iceberg. And the blue, reflecting in the water, adds a 3D look. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

Many thanks, Joe! The turquoise color in the water near the iceberg is actually not a reflection but the berg continuing below the surface. The water is so clear there, you can see down very far. This berg was probably about 80 m tall, and that's just 1/10th of it. The rest is below the surface. Fascinating!

Thank you all for the likes!

Yes it did in deed! It took 1 month's instead of 10 days as they told me, but they start counting from the day they register it and that is 11 days after they received it. A very flexible time schedule

But I have now a brand new viewfinder.

Ron, jawdropping pictures in deed! Wish you would also show the color versions ov the b&w you posted, they must be spectacular too.

How did your A7R perform in such a rather hostile environment? Any special precautions you took when coming from the deck back into heated rooms? I imagine the temperature difference to be able to cause problems.

We are dreaming of that trip since a few weeks, Iceland/Greenland, what an adventure!

    'shoreline at Wolfe's Neck' - a7r / Samyang 14

I shot this handheld while awkwardly perched on a steeply slanted boulder...almost went in the drink a couple times. As a result, it's not as sharp and crisp as it could be, but the image works for me regardless.

Many thanks for the laurels, Georg! The B&W images were taken on a heavily overcast day, so the color versions aren't much to look at.

No problems what so ever. It wasn't too cold, actually - always above freezing, even at night. Battery life was pretty much unaffected. I kept the camera in a dry bag when not in use, and brought it into the cabin where we stayed in the bag, waiting for it to warm up before taking it out of the bag. Standard procedure, really...

We are dreaming of that trip since a few weeks, Iceland/Greenland, what an adventure!
I can't say more at this point, but if you'd like to go there, please send me a PM. There will be an opportunity next year...

It's been a bit quiet today in this thread with all the exciting Sony announcements.

    So time for a snap!
I rarely use 50 iso but I'm constantly surprised just how much detail the A7R/55mm FE can resolve when set at 50 iso...This one was handheld at F8...Cheers Barry

Edit: Apologies Werner for posting straight after your image, I didn't see yours - Accidental I can assure you... Cheers Barry

Now, there is a White Lion Road in Bodmin, and there is a "Red Lion Inn" with supposedly excellent steaks and a "Hole In The Wall" pub, but a white lion behind a window?

Hi Georg, thanks for taking the time to check it out.
The Red Lion Inn is quite away out of Bodmin town itself...But you guessed right it's the "Hole in the Wall" pub that has this poor spectacle in it's back yard!
The Lion is obviously deceased (stuffed by some taxidermist many moons ago and neglected ever since)...I personally hate this sort of a thing I find it quite abhorrent but the Victorians loved it.

Sony A7R, Sony smart adapter, Minolta 20mm f2.8 lens. RAW processed in ACR, using the Sony 20mm f2.8 lens profile. Sky and foreground isolated, put on own layer, then adjustment layers added to each separately, and optimized separately. All taken hand held, camera resting on piling or railing. All shot with same camera, same lens, same spot---starting before the actual sunset, continuing for about 45 minutes for the afterglow, the sky just kept changing. September here on LBI is the best! Thanks for looking.

Interesting that the fishing gear on this side of the Atlantic is similar. Here are some similar to yours taken in New Jersey, USA. Best regards, and nice shot!
