Chengzi Village, Yunnan. This village is located on a 200 meter long hill slope. The adobe type houses are typical of Yi architecture. There are over 1000 units and these are stacked on top of each other. We were there in the morning to photograph the village with the morning mist and smoke coming out from the many chimneys. A7R w/FE 55 f1.8.

The river " De Zaan " near Amsterdam is a very old industrial area where already in the 17th century ships were ordered by Czaar Peter the great. Mills were used for woodsawing. These days it is mostly food produced along De Zaan. The whole area smells of cacoa for chocalate.
Also Cooky and snack factorys. First picture you see the Duyvis, peanuts and snacks.
("Duyvis als er een fuif is") (transl. Duyvis when there is a party)

That Contax N captures images very clean.
Atm, I'm having a hard time finding that Nipon adapter with electronic contacts for exif data.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

Hope people don't mind me blowing my own trumpet here but I entered the British Life Photography Awards 2014 last year with several photographs taken with my A7 and various lenses. Two were picked as 'Highly Commended' and are currently on view at an exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London (before touring the UK). They are also reproduced in the book of the exhibition.

The left hand one, taken on the Thames Bank was shortly after I got the A7 and with the FE 55/1.8 which to my mind is just a spectacular landscape lens. This was shot at f1.8 to create a dreamier look rather than a harsh b&w effect.

The right-hand is an unusual weather event called a 'punch' or 'fallstreak' hole and I literally swerved off the road, jumped out the car and I took it with the A7 and my now sold C-Summicron 40/2.

Both printed up really nicely for the exhibition - I was impressed at the detail in both photographs.

Anyway, a good result for me and for Sony as well.

    Hi Louis, Congratulations!

Is the exhibition at the Mall Galleries still on? I looked on their site and can't find a reference to it.

    Thanks, Bob.

    Thanks, Bob.
Thank you all for your kind words - Bob, the exhibition only runs until this Saturday, 7th March.

I should add the competition attracted some very good work and I am humbled to have mine included.

Paying homage at the site where one of the police (Ahmed Merabet) guarding Charlie Hebdo was killed. The archives of Charlie Hebdo still has police guards but it is forbidden by French law to photograph (even accidentally) any police or Army people.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

I have been lately using my Sony A7R + 55mm FE lens, as a copy camera for digitizing some of my old alternative processed prints...Crudely done I admit with window light and a Whibal card.
The original image was taken in 1987 on a large format Gandolfi 10x8 Traditional camera with Schneider Kreuznach 165mm Super Angulon lens.
In this case I used the Mike Ware formulae to coat the papers with...Both printed around 20 years ago on Cranes Parchment paper...The warm image is an Argyrotype and the other is a Cyanotype.

    Thanks John.

Some unfortunate family matters brought me to southern Arizona for a month recently. I didn't have much free time, but still managed to go shooting on a few occasions...

The weather in Arizona was certainly sublime, though Vancouver's winter has also been quite mild and pleasant - cherry blossoms in bloom by mid-February!

A7R + FE55. I took the M and a 35, 90 and 24 fl and used the A7R solely with the FE55 for this trip. I barely used the 90mm and it was heavy!

Had some fun today down at Falmouth...I had forgotten just how hard it was to shoot street photography with a manual focus lens with people passing you by.
These are my feeble efforts after some previous super work from Steve, Ng, Matt, Christina and Vivek.
Both were taken wide open at F1.2 on my trusty old 58mm Rokkor.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

Nice shots Barry. Yeah, very difficult taking street shots with manual focus. It makes me wonder how Cartier-Bresson managed. I guess a combination of a wide angle (25-35mm) and small aperture is required. It helps if it is a sunny day so you can still use a smaller ISO.

But then, every time I've been to Falmouth the sun was nowhere to be found.

BTW, I only use the a6000 for street photos. Using the E20 lens makes for a very discreet setup, and the "in focus" keep rate is much higher.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

Thank you David...My reactions are just not as fast as I once was at doing this sort of thing...It was pretty frustrating when I saw I only had two acceptable images by the end of the day...I was pushing my luck with leaving the lens set to F1.2 as pedestrians walked close by me at what felt like speed...Far better to have stopped down a bit further or chosen a WA lens as you say.
That A7R shutter is just to noisey for this type of work IMO...I can now see why Vivek likes his A7S with it's silent shutter...Unfortunately I have now sold off my A6000.
I guess I was in luck...Falmouth had sun today.

Many thanks Vivek...I would love to go to Paris but taking photographs would clash with what my wife would want to do!...Which would be sitting in a cafe eating 5 Euro Eclairs all day long

All correct on all counts, Barry.

Do not underestimate your contributions with your landscape photos and your generous sharing of PP techniques (if I could I would camp out at your door to learn a thing or two) here.

On the other point, well, life is full of compromises isn't it?

Same location as the image above...But I concentrated the 58mm Rokkors F1.2 shallow depth of field on this poor guys red nose as the couple walked by.
Nailed the focus point this time...see LARGER.

At the Picasso museum, Paris. It was a remarkable experience (but for atrocities like this) to be able to view masterpieces upclose that aren't even protected by a framing glass (they had some huge classics loaned by private collectors as well).
