But then, every time I've been to Falmouth the sun was nowhere to be found.

BTW, I only use the a6000 for street photos. Using the E20 lens makes for a very discreet setup, and the "in focus" keep rate is much higher.
Cartier Bresson was mostly using a 50mm lens, from what I know.

He was a Magnum photographer and the main moto then was "F8 and be there". aka zone focusing, using DOF scales printed on the lens. Also, the max aperture was not as wide as what we have to day. F2.8 was often already considered to be a fast lens for 35mm or 90mm focals.

Plus there were good focusing helps, like the split screens in the non reflex VF : you just picked a line from your subject and when the two halves of the line became aligned, you were in focus.

    Totally OT but for clarity:

HCB was one of the founders of Magnum (http://inmotion.magnumphotos.com/about/history). Split focus, slow lenses etc are still available. There is even a "Henri" (Leica MM)!

    Hi Vivek,

OK, a few more images from the villages we visited. Mostly shot with FE55, except the first one with the 70-400G. Even though the villages are still populated, increasingly the younger generations are leaving for the larger towns and cities in search of better jobs and education.

Both were taken wide open at F1.2 on my trusty old 58mm Rokkor.
    Hi Barry,

Trying to nail the focus at f1.2 is not easy. I used to have the F1.0 Noctilux and I had a hard time trying to shoot wide open. Anyway, I decided the f1.0 image was not my cup of tea and decided to sell the lens with a good profit.

In some ways, I envy you and others that have nearby access to great landscape locations. I have to travel to faraway places to capture these images. This May and June I will be in the UK and I will travel to the Isle of Skye to shoot some landscapes.

Hi Ng, agree wholeheartedly...I was much happier in the past manual focusing my Leica 35mm and 50mm M Summilux's set at f1.4 for close up street photography than ever using the faster Rokkor 58mm set at F1.2, the Rokkor becomes much sharper by F2 but some of that lovely bokeh has now disappeared and at that point I would now much prefer to use my Sony 55mm F1.8 FE instead for this type of work.
Interesting...In some ways you envy me and in some I envy you!
They say..."The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence"
BTW...I like your last set from China...Cheers Barry

^^ I think it's a pity you didn't shoot that with your a7S, somehow the colors of your hacked a7 do not appeal to me at all.
I like the shot as such, but the color rendering totally spoils it for me.

Thanks but I am not going to take that down nor am I going stop shooting in UV.

I specialise in reflected UV photography and this is cutting edge stuff.

I will refrain from sharing this here in the future.

(FWIW, usingthe A7s for street is almost boring for me. It is far too easy)

First impressions are, of course, the right ones. I can understand that you do not like the colors but that has nothing to do with the A7s or whatever else.

There is a whole bunch technical stuff involved to get these colors and consistently. These aren't random colors. The face of the subject would have been normally grey if it is not for the sunblock that makes it blue-black.

Here is a face without sunblock:
Untitled by Vivek Iyer, on Flickr

I think Paul (camping) got it. Even many (that is very few) who shoot in reflected UV stay away from using it on people for various (wrong, IMO) reasons.

Thanks Vivek, I understand there is a whole lot of complicated technical stuff involved and from an effort perspective to achieve consistent results I can see it's a big deal. It's just that the final result doesn't appeal to me. Maybe I haven't got enough imagination to appreciate the colours that are so far from what I see when I look with my own eyes.

Taken a few hours ago in one of my very most favorite places in all of Cornwall...I just love standing here on the edge of the cliff watching the ocean do it’s thing.
The name Bedruthan Steps is said to be taken from a mythological giant called “Bedruthan” who used the rocks (stacks) on the beach as stepping stones.
Please click on “LARGER” to see the detail from this handheld cropped 16-35mm FE image (27mm sensor cropped to circa equivalent of 35mm AoV)...Many thanks Barry.

And mine. Yes it really is special. And luckily I have great memories of revisiting the Steps last June after 36 years of carrying memories of my former last visit.

Yesterday, beautiful weather and the whole of Whitehall was closed to traffic. I think there was a demonstration going on in Parliament Square. This is outside Horse-guards.

IIRC, Carl ("scho") has shown many examples. Either search or send him a PM.

    Thanks Thorkil.
We upload them from Flickr in their biggest size what we shouldn't because it also takes time for getdpi to downsize them to their maximum size.

I try this one now at 1024 pixels wide ans see if there is any difference.

I thought it was slow auto focus with the A7r that made it difficult.
