Auto focus works and even fast enough for me. Quite amazed that the lens did not hunt despite the shiny stuff visible in the frame.

It is certainly the best in my experience to date. As good as my (now sold) Leica Summicron 35/2 which to my mind is the bar to achieve and surpass.

The FE16-35 is flat out awesome in edge/edge sharpness. Taken at Baker Beach, San Franciso with A7II @ 29mm.

    Full size here.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

More fat pixels (A7S) and the Elmarit 90/2.8. Quite a challenge to get the focus spot on - which it is in the first photograph and only slightly out in the second. That said I think the second has more character even if it isn't pixel perfect.

Many have remarked how well Leica and other non-native lenses work with the A7S and I have to agree that it is my experience as well.

Thanks Vivek. It has been over a year since I started using the A7r. Interestingly, nearly half of my photos are now captured with the A7r. The other half are from the M240.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

Another old (Folly) image of mine originally taken with the 10x8 Gandolfi and 165mm Super Angulon (Circa 1985) - Copied using the A7R/55mm FE lens.
This time I made a “Salt Print” using the very earliest method of photographic printing, the same as used by William Henry Fox Talbot.
I.e. soaking the print in a solution of sodium chloride and then (Double) coating with a silver nitrate solution once the paper had dried.
Exposure was around a couple of hours in the sun with the negative on top in a contact printing frame...(The process was later improved by WHFT to increase the sharpness).

The image is of Temple Bar ( Temple Bar, London - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ).
Taken in Theobalds Park, Cheshunt (before it was relocated back to London a 123 years later in 2003-2004).
The then owner at Theobalds Park a Lady Meux was quite a colourful character remembered by my Grandparents as riding around London in a buggy draw by a pair of zebras!
On the upper level she used to entertain the Prince of Wales and Winston Churchill.

A few more peeling paint and rust shots from the boxcar shoot. I will go back to re-shoot this car with tripod and Cambo Actus attached to the A7r with some LF glass out front. These were all hand held and since I've become accustomed to shooting with IBIS cameras recently I neglected to take care when shooting with the A7r.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

Thanks Vivek, my typical PP (used at import in LR) is to reduce contrast and saturation and push clarity and vibrance to compensate. I leave auto CA correction on at all times then start looking at shadows, midtones and highlights to see what needs work. One needs to be careful of course but I find that gives me a much better developed raw than starting from defaults.

I have posted a couple of 1/2 sized jpegs, one PP'd as above and the other default LR settings to allow people to look at the corners especially, both with auto CA and without. These are the links so you can see what I started with as well as examine in more detail.

Thank you. It is actually moire. All of them have the same sharpening routine but this one turns out to be on a more crunchy side. The strong moire doesn't help either . This was taken using the A7s.Mod.
