Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

A difficult lens to make work, hugely soft wide open and although sharp stopped down, comes with an incredibly 'old' look due to flare and the fact it's, um, old :D Not knocking it, I love the look and it was a freebie!

My 3 year old son contemplating life. A7r, Pentax 35mm f2 wide open.

A few high res images taken today in Upper Treman gorge with the Sony A7R, Rhinocam, and Mamiya 645 150mm and 55mm lenses.
Thanks to all for the likes. A fun setup to use with the A7R.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

After using M lenses and not wanting to bother with adapters for Nikon, Alpha, etc. I think I found my happy place in the 35mm FE. This tiny little lens is perfect for traveling light in any situation. IMO, native lenses are the way to go for the A7/r's, to utilize all the features this camera offers. Now if only we had more of them...

Here's a few from the 35mm FE. The acuity and rendering of this lens is really impressive. These are 90KB low res images.

Nowhere near as dramatic as Johnny's stuff.

Went to the local park this morning to do some more testing and see if there's any way I can get my Pentax 24mm to work. Basically no. However while I was there I decided to see what the corners of my Pentax Super Tak 35mm f2 will do stopped down (corners great from f8 actually but never loses that 'look', vignetting is pp). I liked the picture actually, love the look of an old lens. So gentle and dreamy.

Ben,
yes, some of those older lenses do work great. I guess that's really the beauty of the A7/r's, in their ability to be so adaptable. I used a Zeiss 18mm F/4 distagon ZM and the resolution was outstanding! Almost no color casts and a little vignetting, but overall a remarkable lens. The corners weren't as good, but easily cropped. It is also tiny and focus peaking works great. It seems that asymmetrical lenses do better on the A7/r's, perhaps because of the less obtuse angles of light on the sensor.

Godfrey,

There's a unique style and character to your photographs that I recognize instantly. I think most photographers would love that kind of "branding"...nicely done
