I can understand vegetarian concerns and motivations Barry. My partner (Veterinarian) quit her job and studied again. She was not willing to play the drug dealer for meat mass producers. Now she teaches Biology and Mathematics in high school.

Werner,

I went through my backup for this one here in particular. Just an experiment from 2010 with the 135 getting close. Showing the last flowers of very late goarse (Ginster) in Donegal.

Although I know you do have even more famous lenses in deed, I would not be astonished if the 135 deserves a place right beside them on your shelf, thinking of your Leica 100 and Macro Planar being in a different league perhaps, but not so far away imho.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

On the other discussion going on, I would like to contribute a few final thoughts.

Zoran referred to "common decency" and this term is usually used to demand that someone shows the common decency to do something or refrain from doing something in cases where someone has grossly violated our social conventions.

The latter being the crux here in my view.

I lived long enough in the US myself, and I was stunned by the amount of prudery and procrastination that I observed when it came to matters of sexualtiy. A sexually extremely charged society would be an understatement in deed.

Social conventions are a matter of "Zeitgeist", and Zeitgeist is a matter of social political as well as economical dominance in a given social structure.

The picture you claim to feel offended by displays what I would descirbe as partial nudity, and that triggers you to quote netiquette and referr to US law etc.

It is no secret that the biggest consumers of porn, and that is not the category Werner's picture falls into, are conservatives, the very people shoveling their common sense and morality down our throats with pleasure.

Edelman / Harvard Business School:
http://people.hbs.edu/bedelman/papers/redlightstates.pdf

It does not endanger the development of a child to see bare breasts, and hey, "normally" that is what they see the first time they are around on this planet anyways if you get my drift.

I find your demand and referral to common sense and respect utterly risible, and that is the last I have to say on that matter.

Best
Georg

:) Yeah! She is one of a kind in deed. She trained thoroughbred race horses for 25 years and rescued two of them who were of the world's highest pedigree (one mare coming from "Monsun") that the former owner wanted to have slaughtered because she did not bring him the money he was expecting. Well, he did let her run a race when she was having "Druse" a bacteriological infection of the lung and she came in last and it nearly killed her.

So she bought her when she was already half dead, gave her the space and TLC to recover, and within a year she won races again. Now she is retired and has a good life!

I often ask myself what the Heck I would have done good to deserve her. :)

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

Been away for a couple of days....

Seems to me like this whole thread is spooling out of control. Not really in the GETDPI collegiality thing IMHO.

There are some great pictures on this thread and occasionally one that may or may not strike one's fancy...that is a personal decision on a lot of levels. IF the TV offends thee turn it off or change the channel...or thread in this instance. Good news is after a day or so the offending item is buried on another page.

Probably best to lighten the tone before SOMEONE locks this thread down.

Really not worth personal attacks and such.

Now lets see some pictures....

And Georg, the Gorse with the 135 is truly stunning...may have to add another camera to the long list....

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

Enough is enough kind members.
First-off we do have a forum policy concerning images that are NSFW to be marked as such and to post those in the images to share forum.
Although that is the case, we have polled our mods, Cindy, Jack, Guy, and myself and feel unanimously that the image in question, although it certainly did contain nudity, that nudity was secondary or incidental to the image. None of the mods found the image to be offensive.
The tough part about policing community standards of decency is that very much depends on the community. Some communities would not permit images of people AT ALL, some don't care if it all hangs out.
We know that we are walking a fine edge here but prefer to allow this image due to its incidental and relatively mild nudity and lack of suggestive pose or context.
In general nudity that amounts to that which one might find hanging in the Louvre even though rendered photographically must be considered acceptable if incidental to the overall composition.

So please, kind members, observe some self restraint and try to not inflame passions contrary to the spirit of this site.

As for the flames that ensued from the complaint, those are not acceptable at all.
Everyone has an opinion whether one agrees with it or not, please do not throw insults. Those will result in cautions which will be handed out as we see fit.

One more flame on the issue will lock the thread.
thanks for your consideration
-bob

If possible I would like to politely add. There are those like myself who for religious reasons do not wish to see nudity. Every one else is entitled to their own choices but I hope that being open minded also means being open minded towards those who have made personal decisions in their lives vis a vis religious beliefs and choices. To have nudity sprung on myself unannounced is extremely uncomfortable. I believe there should be a choice to view nudity, not that those who disagree with a dissenting view to my own should be able to force their views by posting pictures of this kind without any warning. I want to respectfully beg that others respect my right to choose as I respect theirs.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

one man can see nudity harmlessly, while another can see something else, as Bob has pointed out.

not so easy to define the boundary of what constitutes inappropriate nudity, or any nudity. Do you stay away from the Met, the Louvre, the DeYoung, etc. or do we use those as examples of modestly displayed nudes/art?

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

In an attempt to move us along...

I decided that I needed a longer focal length for studio shots as manual focus was just taking too long. Focus with wide aperture - stop down to take picture - hope I didn't move the focus when I did this, etc.

Everyone seems to love the Sony 85 1.4 but I don't need 1.4 for the studio or the expense associated with it. Purchased the LA-EA4 and the lowly SAL85 2.8.

WOW - crisp and sharp. Light and inexpensive. Won't keep me from having GAS for the 135 1.8 but fills my need for an 85 perfectly.

SAL 85- 2.8 at f3.5 ISO 100 1/200 A7r.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

Okay this took 5 times to write this. Anyway thought I would chime in and really folks this is a tough one. We do have a specfic forum for posting NSFW images and obviously your choice to view or not depending on YOUR decisions to view or not. If this was a direct shot of a naked female or male for that matter posted in a general thread the job of the mods would be very easy and either move it over or delete it. This particular image the nudity was secondary and for us mods and a very tough decision as it first and foremost was not a direct attempt by the poster to post in the general forum as a sneak attack lets say but secondary to the main subject and also his country and culture has far diffrent views of nudity than other country's as well. We as a whole understand that but we also understand very much the flip side and let's be honest Cindy, Jack, Bob and I are all US citizens with this country's culture and restrictions of commercial postings of nudity. But we as a whole are a global website and very sensitive to others culture, religion yada yada yada about our differences across the globe. So our decisions are tough and let's be honest this is one of those fine lines of censorship that we try to avoid at all costs. But on the other hand we have in place at least at registration a adult policy and even our own Bob shoots nudes as his creative endeavor in Photography and let's face it this is a ART site so we get it, I have shot nudes myself on several occasions as well. But it's our Art and we are free to shoot whatever we want to pursue that avenue. So we are very sensitive to this subject but we all felt it was secondary to the image so hard to censor it. All we can do is ask members to post direct images in the NSFW forum and let folks use there best judgement in the general forum. This image is just not a clear cut decision to make and maybe the first time here eon GetDPI that it was on that fine line to go either way. I'm going to go what Bob said and honor that decision.

The worst part here and really got us mods involved was the insults that followed , please leave that stuff at the door as you come to dinner at our round table. We are a family and all is welcome to participate .

Uh Jim... shoulder blades... cover up the shoulder blades please.

I shouldn't need to state it, but there are no rules of 'common decency' even though some on this forum apparently believe so.

Lastly, I think that this may have been posted on Sunday? At least it was Sunday in the US...

Werner may not have known it, but he was celebrating a constitutional right that has been denied women through policy. It was national Go Topless day here.

Re: Fun with the Sony A7 and A7r series

So question...can the mods please delete all the side comments and discussions? I don't think most want to have to parse through that to get to the subsequent images. Can we just move the image in question to the NSFW thread so not to offend anyone for professional, religious, or other concerns?

It's 100% clear Werner did not intend any offense by posting his image. I wasn't offended by the image in anyway personally but I could respect if someone were to be offended by one of my images due to cultural, religious, social differences or a mere oversight. I get that it's art and an art site but we all have a shared responsibility to be respectful to other members no matter the reason.

Just my thoughts on this for whatever they're worth. I don't wanna see the thread locked as it is a really good one and one that's run for over 50 pages of images.

I'm without computer but I do agree we should just delete all the posts that are not image related.

+1 Well put.
Although I personally think the comments should stay (As long as they are not disrespectful in any way)...Freedom of speech and all that.
"Let it be" and "Give peace a chance" come to mind together with "Forgive and forget"...Lets just move on and take great pictures.
This thread is where I hang out, if you close it I will be homeless!...Now you wouldn't want that on your conscious now would you? ;) ...Cheers Barry

It was just a tempest in a glass of water. Note that until Ben's last post it was all created by one single person, none among the others posters felt offended by the "incriminated picture"
