Re: Fun with the Sony A7 Series Cameras( all of them)

Testing out a s/h FE 28/2 which I got from ebay. A very capable lens for a very decent price, even brand new. RAWs are very distorted but shape up nicely with the lens profile in LR. Colouration, imho, is excellent. I'm still playing with the bokeh which seems to me to be as good as 55/1.8 - or rather as over the top. All on the A7R. Is this an old Minolta-type design?

Wide open at f2 with profile correction in LR but no other processing

Also f2, profile correction and b&w conversion in LR

f8, profile correction, slight adjustment of perspective

f8, profile correction, adjustment for mood and exposure in LR

I'm such an anorak I can't resist a freight train shot... f8

City of London, shot through and from Tower Bridge at dusk

South bank, with Shard and City Hall

Both the above shots on a tripod at ISO100 with the A7RII and 24-70mm F/4, which lens is OK, but markedly inferior to the 16-35mm

South Bank and Shard at dusk

A7RII, 24-70mm Sony Zeiss, Tripod, F/16, 1.6 secs, perspective corrected. Taken a little earlier than the above shots.

^^^ Really good stuff, Quentin: I bet you get to like the 24-70 a lot, I do ^^^

More from the FE 28/2 on a Sony A7R -

- or, as I like to think of the combination, the "poor man's Leica Q".

Another couple, same lens. It is insane how sharp this thing is - I've even had to dial back my sharpening....

and a 100% crop...

Cropping has definitely aged the pepper.

Is it a fruit, or a vegetable?

In some forums, this question guarantees a flame war.

How dare you ask such an asinine and ill-educated question? Who TF are you and what are you doing here?

(was that OK? I'm not very good at flame...)
