Guy & Joe,
Thanks for the help. I'm up and running. What an incredible lens. Wow!!! Talk about being psyched. Awesome....
Rick, first, welcome to the party. GetDPI and its Sony forum are good places to hang out and share experiences and photos.
Second, you're lucky to own the Batis 25mm. Some people still can't get one. They're slowly trickling out to stores.
Finally, that lens is one of the best I've ever owned, including Leica M and S lenses. It's stunning edge-to-edge and corner-to-corner. You'll enjoy it and probably keep it "glued" to the camera like I do.
Thanks Joe! And what a party it is! I have to fess up, I have been hanging out for quite some time. Especially since the a7rii was announced. Seeing the level of everyone's work, it was easy to have confidence in the opinions expressed, even the fervent ones.
Nice capture, David!
Here in the UK my 25 arrived from WEX today. 85 is still back ordered.
17 weeks and counting since I ordered the 85mm from B&H. I'm also on waiting lists at two other stores, both of which thought they would get me a lens by now. I also notice that the LensRentals site, which had originally claimed that they would be renting out the Batis 85 starting in October, now says "available November 19."
Oh well; First World Problem.
Meanwhile, Sony is threatening to bring out an 85mm f1.4 G some time this Fall. If it's really good, and not too big.....
Batis alert! Popflash has a few 25mm's in stock right now: http://www.popflash.com/2103750
I just claimed their only 85mm.
Yea...not anymore... I can't seem to get one of these damn lenses. Thanks for the heads up.

If anyone is looking for a Batis 25mm I will likely have mine for sale in December. I have the 21/2.8 on order and should be getting an early copy. If I like it as much as I expect, the 25mm will be on to another home. As wonderful as it is, I would like a little more separation between the 28mm and the 35mm options. Will miss the AF though.
PM me if you would like first right of refusal.
Been waiting since July. I just got a reply from the SE Asia part of the Zeiss sales/marketing chain, very nicely mannered, telling me the usual things - 'sorry cannot do it' effectively. This was followed by a request to fill in a survey on how satisfied I am with the response, lol.
Anyway, I did learn one thing from the Australian distributor .. get this: Zeiss ships these lenses from Japan to Germany before they then (re)distribute them to wherever they end up. It's like those mystery flights, except you find your CZ lenses aboard the Malaysian plane off in the Indian Ocean somewhere.
None ended up here, the local outfit went a month or two with none at all. From past experience, Europe is an internal-facing black hole when it comes to photographics, all our business is with SE Asia and/or the US, so the Pacific Rim essentially. Things work there.
At least Zeiss is suffering a well-deserved loss of reputation out of this oh-so-avoidable goat rodeo. It's galling to see them release the new/not new 'Milvus' lenses to great fanfare and get this - mounted on Sony a7rII cameras! Those giant suckers were given priority but will gather dust on B&H shelves..they represent a big up yours from Zeiss to Sony users! ;-)
If that can be a consolation : my country has a common border with Germany, but we aren't getting any Batis lenses before at least Christmas. The nearest delivery date I could find was end of December. My local brick and mortar store told me the same. She didn't even have one herself for testing or demo.
Edit : I just checked with all the reputable online dealers here and not a single one can communicate a delivery data.

I finally got my 25mm and it is every bit as good as everyone sats it is.
I't pretty sharp wide open and can be used for subject separation from f/2 on, although that will be apparent only when you print large. At we sizes the full field of view looks the same!
More seriously, there is a bit of CA that lightroom does't correct at full aperture, but it is on a par with my Leica lenses, if not as compact.
Allen's Camera shipped my Batis 25mm yesterday. I had contacted them about less than two weeks ago.
They also offers UPS Ground for FREE and it only costed $12 by 2nd Day Air to SF Bay Area.
Give a call to Brandon if you like to be on the waiting list.
Would that be the Allen's in Levittown, PA?
Call Newtonville in Ma. Also
Well, whaddya know...just got notice from Adorama that the Batis 25 ordered on 8/24 will ship tomorrow.
Great news . Enjoy
So glad more people are finally getting their hands on these lenses. The 25mm Batis is a joy every time I use it.

Seriously the 25 is without a doubt a must have lens
Mmm .. That thread is now almost the last one, down of the list of forum threads.
A sign of how it is difficult to find some in stock ?
I think that one-two forumers were able to get a 25mm ? (They seem even rarer than the 85mm) and I have a question :
How trustful is the distance scale on the LCD ? Is it OK for zone focusing ?
I ask because I have a few Olympus lenses which are focusing by wire, but where a clutch mechanism allows you to switch directly from AF to MF and vice versa. Alas the distance scale appearing on the barrel in MF is too imprecise for meaningful zone focusing.
So I'm really curious about how well that work on the Batis lenses, especially with the 25mm.
I don't do much zone focusing so your question intrigued me.
The readout is to a tenth of a foot or meter. It also shows the near and far zone of focus.
I did some manual focusing on various points and the readout seemed reasonably accurate. The Peaking indiction in the EVF seemed reasonably consistent with the readout as well.
I did all of this at relatively close focus distances wide open.
Stopped down and at longer focus distances I expect that it will be a good indiction.
I've never thought of focus markings on lenses as being more than a rough guide.
Does the fly-by-wire focus feel or behave any differently than Sony / Zony lenses?
One thing I've noticed with both Sony and Batis is that the more quickly the focus ring is turned the faster it seems to move. Conversely, when fine tuning and moving it slowly it reduces the movement of the focus plane which makes precise focus a bit easier.
I was pretty excited when it came, as I ordered long ago.
Unfortunately the right side, about 2/3 down, was quite unsharp. This was verified in many photos, even if I focused directly on that area. The center was slightly better than the 16-35mm, but the right side was unacceptable until f/5.6 and never was better than the 16-35mm. I'm afraid I don't have time (or know how) to post the photos on the board.
So, I'll see how the replacement does.

Just a heads up for those looking.
There appears to be a Batis 25 for sale on Ebay.
The seller says it is in new condition having been used only once.
One used Batis 25mm at B&H also

OK - was on B&H since 9-12 for the 25mm Batis. Was told 1 month ago that I'd get lens with 11-26 shipment. Well - 11-26 went by & I called them on Sunday 11-29. Probed and was told that they're still working on summer orders ........ forgeddaboutitttt.
I checked eBay and found a reputable seller from Japan - "e_product_japan". They had positive feedback and comments like, "unbelievably fast shipping". I took the bait and sent $1,488.00 - BUT their lens includes $55 shade that B&H charges extra for.
The lens was shipped today EMS - arriving by Wednesday. We'll see - but so far so good. I didn't pay that much of a premium and don't have to wait until 2016. Again - we'll see how this works out.
Yesterday received a new 25mm. I had ordered it last Friday from a local dealer in Spain.
Sony A7RII | Zeiss Batis 25 F2 | Zeiss Batis 85 F1.8 | Sony FE35 F2.8 | Sony FE55 F1.8 | Sony FE90 F2.8 | Sony FE16-35 F4 | Sony FE24-70 F4 | Sony FE70-200 F4
My 85 arrived today - and despite the fact that we are being battered by Storm Desmond so no outdoor photography - I am so impressed at how sharp this lens is. And I love the creamy bokeh. I'm not missing my Canon 85 1.2 at all. Particularly as the Batis can't weigh much more than half what the Canon did!
Now I have both lenses (after waiting nearly six months for my order to be fulfilled) I can't wait to see what Zeiss will come up with next. How about a 50mm too? That would be just perfect
My Batis 25mm comes today from B&H! I placed the order on August 30.
Ordered the 85 @ Berger Brothers today
Will see how long it takes
Still torn between Batis 25 & Loxia 21 on the wide end.
Batis 85 has such universal praise I had to pull the trigger...
Adorama shows 25mm Batis in stock at the moment -

That's what I am looking for, the 85mm Batis.
Anyhow, Mike, I understand that you have a Sony FE 28/2 before. Sold it and replaced it with the 25mm Batis. In your opinion, how does the 28/2 compare with the 25mm Batis, image quality wise? I like the compact size of the 28/2 for traveling purpose, but like to know how good it is. Since you have used both lenses, may be you can share your expertise opinion with us, if you do not mind?
I think it comes down to preferred focal length and price. Both are nice lenses. But if you can afford it, the Batis is a special lens.

I won't cancel my order right away, maybe I get luckier with their next shipment.
However, if I can buy the lens somewhere else then I would want to cancel.
It seems one can only do that over the phone.
Is there a way to cancel the item online with Adorama?
If there is, I haven't found it. TIA.
With best regards, K-H.
Hello from Italy,
after some months of useless hunt,I grabbed an almost new batis 25 mm .I got it only one week before leaving for India .
I am very satisfied from the results .In particular I appreciated the possibility to focus very close to the subject.
I used my Batis 25 mainly with sony alpha mark 2 and seldom with sony alpha 7r .I am looking for a new batis 85 but at the moment is quite impossible to get it in Italy .
you can find more pics in my new website.

i just received my batis 85mm, had it shipped from guangzhou to beijing.
except one small scuff on the barrel(why i will have the lens exchanged) it makes a good impression.
but i have one question to others.
i tried to activated the function to focus on the eye, but my a7rII tells me the lens is invalid, is the batis not supported by this function?
ok i assigned the eye focus to a custom button and it works now.
but in the menu, the "eye focus" option still tells me the lens is invalid....strrrrange
