If the AF is on par or even faster than I can focus manually then it really is fast!

The built in central shutter is really noiseless (it looks as if the camera makes a soft "wink") and does not create any undue attention.

Your colors and Vivek's are so different – I guess you're using different profiles?

Kirk, Most of the time I struggle to make a snap that is correctly focused.

(you would not believe how poor the light is here with very thick cloud cover!)

I sometimes use a custom color profile by using Color Checker Passport. I've found, though, that the RX1rII often does better using Adobe's standard profile.

The three Christmas shots required very little post processing. I added a bit of dynamic contrast and levels adjustment for full dynamic range. But really, the images often come straight from the camera in acceptable shape. The OOC jpegs are usually spot on as well.

Looking at some of the images this camera can create, on a Retina display, really show what this camera/lens can do. The outdoor image of Union Square was shot on an overcast day from inside Macys (through a glass window). Yet it shows a remarkable sense of light and color saturation. I'll have to go back that same spot on a bright, sunny day to see how it compares.

Sharpness on the edges (hardly the kind of lighting one would use to judge this) is quite good.

AF works, even in very low light and with many bright spots in a frame. AF was spot on the french fry. Fast and accurate.

Today there was a bit of sunshine and I could use the cam at low ISO (ie, lower than 3200- 6400 territory). Even with the LPF set to std, it is sharp.

I wish to contribute a few of my street photos so Vivek isn't the only one posting here.
But unfortunately, most of mine include a bikini or board shorts since I live in Hawaii.
Consequently, they don't really look like traditional street images.

Re: Fun with the RX-1R II

I am dying to go out and take some more images with the RX, but the weather has been uncooperative - cold, rainy, gloomy, and little hope for change anytime soon. I feel like humming that song from the "Annie".

Fort Baker, CA. This is a decommissioned fort now used mostly for office/studio space. The buildings in front are now a luxury hotel with outstanding views of San Francisco.

This shot gave me nightmares with color timing. I used a 10 stop Hoya filter for the timed exposure, and even the best of these filters add a color cast. The color of the bay is always challenging to get right, then we have the warm color of the buildings. Overhead, the very low overcast clouds -should- be neutral gray, but they are close enough to pick up light reflected from the ground. Removing that color cast is a challenge.

I've recently discovered Sony's "smooth reflections" app can be very effective in blending multiple images in-camera into a single RAW image, duplicating the effect of a long, timed exposure. I could have done this image with a 3 stop ND filter. I'll try it next time.

Hey Vivek! I addressed battery performance in the post. Basically, no bueno in the sub-zero stuff. Glad I live in TX.

I have overlooked that reference, Chad. I now have enough batteries (7 total) and a few chargers to keep me going. I have had a battery last from 50 shots to ~200, depending on the weather. It is what it is. It can be easily overlooked considering all the positives it has.

Once Robert's grip arrives, it is going to perfect!

OK, I'll play too. These were taken during my recent trip to India. Folk Dancers at night, mixed lighting. AWB, ISO 3200, f2, 1/200, autofocus on the dancer's face. I am amazed at the quick AF, great WB out of the box and sharp at f2.

Re: Fun with the RX-1R II

Sony.nl sent me an email to review the rx1rII. I did and they got back saying they will not publish it and asked me to revise what I said.

    So here it is:
I have been using the cam everyday since I bought it.
The camera could have been priced better (than what i paid -€3,499). Yes, i will recommend sony products to others as they are innovative and sometimes they get it right.

Edit: The above is the un-revised version. Highly positive (AFAIC). I have no idea is wrong with sony. I feel for those reps in their payroll.

There was a demonstration against cruelty to animals/fur today. Just saw it as it was getting over.

The attached grip helped with the low shutter speed.

    Another shot. (Bont = Fur)

Lol, what did they ask you to change? And how much did they offer to pay?

You didn't even mention feeling it necessary to carry 7 batteries!

    Cheers Vivek

That is right Brian. i did not even get into how TGA-1 duimgreep voor Cyber-shot® RX1 | TGA-1 | Sony NL a thumb grip at €250 or a lens hood LHP-1 zonnekap voor Cyber-shot® RX1 | LHP-1 | Sony NL at €180 are too rich for even Leica collectors!

Re: Fun with the RX-1R II

Thank heavens we still have one or two legitimate users willing to share their 'unrevised' experience, and a decent forum here on which to find them!

Let's hope that all camera companies learn to value this place for authentic feedback, rather than yet another outlet for marketing broadcasts

    This is a great forum

    Cheers

    Brian
