New Firmware A7RII and A7sII

Just saw this and looked into it on Sony website

File Description
This utility updates the ILCE-7RM2 system software to version 3.00, and provides the following benefits:
Improvements over version 2.00:
Improves 4K movie recording time when using the vertical grip (VG-C2EM) or when the APS-C/Super35mm mode is activated
Improves picture quality

Benefits provided by previous updates and included in version 3.00:
Adds the selectable feature for uncompressed 14-Bit RAW image capture
Adds support to output video via HDMI during use of the Remote Camera Control software (still mode only)
Reduces the chance of the camera changing to front focus when shooting certain scenes.
Note: This symptom rarely occurs.
Decreases chroma noise when Long Exposure NR (Noise Reduction) is set to Off.
Note: The noise does not occur when Long Exposure NR is set to On.
Improves continuous shooting at Hi speed so that it can be used just as long when using the flash as without the flash

Here is the link for the A7rII with Mac. Also supports the A7sII as well

Would be nice to have this and the others in the earlier FW update for my A7R and A7S.

duh...what is the loading process? did not see the instructions on the sony site
Click on the blue link next to the green UPDATE button at the top of the firmware description (after you've chosen your OS and the FW itself). That takes you to a new page with both the loading process and a download button

Did anyone find any noticeable improvement in the picture quality ?

Improvements over version 2.00:
  • Improves 4K movie recording time when using the vertical grip (VG-C2EM) or when the APS-C/Super35mm mode is activated
  • Improves picture quality

Grrr - how do I hate such silly notes ... :banghead:

From another source:
And it also adds a mysterious” Picture quality improvement”. I have yet no clue what this means and I hope our readers can help us to find out what it means!

Should have something to do with JPGs I guess...

What I do note is focusing with the 90mm is smoother, less to none hunting.

Yeah, I did to update and agree that the 90mm seems to lock on faster than it did last night (wasn't bad too bad before but this does seem better)

Thank's Guy for the head's up and thank all of you who decided to update right away and found no issues ;) It has been awhile but I remember the fiasco many had with a update Sony did on the old original a77 which sent many a camera to Laredo TX for repairs or we all were privy to the full boot process that only repair facilities performed before that firmware update. I was lucky as I was out of town and away from my a77 so I personally waited when I got back for the all clear from others several weeks later before I updated. Since then I don't jump first on anyone's firmware update till I see posts that all is well from the early adopters.

I posted the question on their forum, emailed their general support line and then their Pro Support line and asked what the improved picture quality meant; ie for video, jpg, RAW or combo, and then what the change was. I got an quick reply from one of their Senior Product Specialists from my email to Pro Support and he wrote;

"It was an adjustment to CA(chromatic aberration) control. There was no mention of if this effected RAW, I highly doubt it would affect RAW output."
