Canon mount medium zoom for the HCam Master TSII ?

Hi,

I am a happy owner of the HCam Master TSII and have used it with my Hasselblad lenses and the Canon 16-35/4 zoom with satisfactory results.

I would be interested in buying a medium zoom (24-70 or 24-105) in Canon mount so I can use with the HCam Master T&S. I am more interested in tilts than shifts.

To me, the Sigma 24-105/4 (Art) and 24-70/4L, 24-105/4L and 24-70/2.8LII from Canon seem to be interesting alternatives.

Any suggestions and/or recommendations?

I own a 24-105mm F4 L and tested it when I first got the A7r & Metabones Smart Adapter v. 3. It had weak corners from what I remember and I never put it on the A7r or A7r2 again. Although I like the greater versatility of that focal length, it wasn't good enough compared to the Sony 24-70mm F4 plus it was much more cumbersome on the tiny A7r. I should may be try it again on the A7r2 plus Metabones v.4. Another lens that was good on the 6D but gives meh performance on the A7r1/2 is the 40mm F2.8 pancake. The worst of all were the 16-35mm F2.8 (first version) and the 50mm F1.4. There are only two lenses that I use with satisfaction on the A7r1/2 : the Tamron 90mm F2.8 SP Di (first version without IS) and the 70-200mm F4 L IS USM (first version).

Now that I think there is also a very good Tamron zoom, light and compact and which has very sharp corners on the Canon bodies : the 28-75mm F2.8 XR Di LD (IF) (which also offers a macro position, although not at 1:1) but it is an older lens which the Metabones v.4 and A7r1/2 aren't able to AF (sharper than the more recent standard zoom with IS that Tamron is now offering). I don't know how much movements it would allow on your HCAM.

I'm quite busy these days with Christmas coming next week, but I could shoot some samples with both the 24-105mm and the 28-75mm F2.8. Just give me a little time.

I actually own the Tamron 28-75/2.8 in shape of the Konica Minolta 28-75/2.8. I can retest it and that may give some ideas.

I have the Sony 24-70/2.8 ZA and it is surprisingly good at the short end but kind of miserable at 70mm.

Please don't make tests for me. The input I got is very valuable without pictures. Just to say a lens that is 'meh' on the Metabones 3 will also be 'meh' on the Metabones 4T, although the flocking on the latest metabones may reduce flare.

If you're interested in medium format lenses, I've been trying the Pentax 645 45-85 and have found it to be much better than I anticipated. I've just done some initial tests, but have found it difficult to nail focus... Once it's focused well, though the results are good. I've been trying one with an actus and a fotodiox P645 to Canon adapter.

I've been using the focus mask. I didn't realize magnified live view would work without an electronic connection to the body... I'll try to figure it out.

The single outstanding feature of the A7 cams! Works even without any lens attached! :bugeyes:

Hit the C1 button (default) to activate a rectangle. Hit it again to magnify. you can move the rectangle around as well.
