    Re: Fun With Sony _____

In the nature of being solution oriented and maybe compromise how about all of the main brand "Fun with..." (i.e. this Fun with Sony____ ) threads become a sticky post and it will never go away and people can choose whether or not to post their images here as well as whatever the "flavor of the month" camera model "Fun with..." thread. Everyone is happy. The main "Fun with..." thread never goes to page 10 and people will be able to do their research or viewing of image examples from whatever camera they want. That can be a forum wide thing though. I know there are search features and they help in most cases but I agree that if I wanted to say only look at A7/r stuff then going through 122 pages would be a bit much for me as I generally wouldn't care after a certain point.

Great job all around though from the owners/ mods so I don't want this to seem like anyone is poking and pointing fingers. This is probably the only photography forum I visit on a regular basis and that's for a great reason.

    Hi Jack
I think that's fine - there'll be a new thread for a new camera while it's new. . . . . as it dies then people using that camera will start posting to the Generic thread (this one in that case).
No work for you - easy to search, and a way forwards for when a thread gets to page 10.

    Re: Fun With Sony _____

While we're at it, I have a suggestion: allowing image threads to have the same number of posts per page as mainly text threads means that the pages take for ever to load. Is there any way of specifying the 'fun with' threads to have a lower message count per page? Would anyone find that useful?

Tim you can set that up yourself in your User CP top left corner. Hit that got to settings and options than too edit options. You will see thread display options and can select how many posts in a thread . You select from 10 to 100. Try it
Photography is all about experimentation and without it you will never learn art.

A7 + FE 24-70: The more I look at it, the more I like it.

I stopped looking at the corners and the distortion and started taking pictures. I even dropped the idea of getting multiple copies of the lens and trying to cherry pick a "good one".

What a versatile combo - ability to shoot handheld at 1/5 second / ISO 4000 and still get a decent output, can't ask for more. I am sure that someone with more PP skills can improve these even more.

Those are some fantastic night shots! Could you share your workflow on how you post processed them? : )

    Re: Fun With Sony _____

Thanks Rurouni. I shoot RAW with exposure set to +0.7 or +1.0.

Attached are the typical LightRoom settings I used for A7's night shots. Minimal luminance NR if needed. Note that there is a lot of room to further improve the tone and highlights (I am lazy so I left it at that).

    Export for screen, sharpness high.

Thanks Jaree, much appreciated! Seldom shoot night landscapes so will keep those processing parameters in mind.

They really have a nice look. Like slide film crossed with the 'cleanness' of a digital file =)

I was playing around today with my expodisc 2.0 to see if there was a difference between the flat field plugin and cornerfix. I could not see any noticeable differences. Here is some of the shots both with Sony NEX 7 + Contax G 35-70.

These are from the a99 and Contax Yashica 35-70/3.4. The hats, ribbons and fancy gear are for the winter festival dressup. They asked me so they stayed focused, no pun intended.

Usually I don't like to see the microphone in front of a singer's face, but somehow here it all works together very well, expression, scene, the way she holds it. Great shot John, and a nice B&W conversion.

These are with a900 with Contax 35-70 f3.4, in the Kosciuszko NP.

If any kind soul comes by, can you tell me how to have my images show full size in the page, I would appreciate it. The thumbnail idea loses a lot of detail, and it forces viewers to open the thumbnail, an extra server call.

When I add an attached file they get put in this little box you see..ta, phil

    Re: Fun With Sony _____

I wondered Philip, I really would like to see your fine images on a bigger size.

Whereever your images are located on the web. Rightclick on the image and copy url. If they are located in the Gallery of getdpi, you have to open them first to get the bigger size and then copy url.

In reply to thread click on the image icon (mountain with sun) and paste your url in there. Make sure it does not say twice http://.

If you want to have it in the middle, (only when you use advanced settings) select the whole url text you pasted and click on centered text icon.

Hope this is clear. If you use flickr there is another way. Let me know and I'll explain.

This month we're running a "prime challenge" on Dyxum, everybody just using one or two primes and posting pic-a-day.

I'm having a lot of fun with my NEX6 and a recently acquired Sony E20/2.8, a neat little small lens with great IQ

Beautiful shot of a beautiful bird Bill. It just fits perfectly in the pool and the small flowers just add to it all.

Just a little more fun with my 20 mm on the NEX6, I really like what I'm getting there.

You can see it's a crop Bill (or higher iso), but the pose in which you caught it, with the concentrated gaze towards the ground (or water surface) really makes it a nice catch.

EDIT: this comment is on the eagle, you posted some more shots inbetween while I was typing

Let me alternate again with some more 20 mm shots (on the NEX6). The more I use this little lens the more I like it.

Your first post doesn't show a picture for me, but the second is a beauty, what an animal, and it looks so relaxed. Just our son's house cat, but I know that isn't the case

Only wondering what the slight hazy/blueish areas of the picture are, flare from the backlight or some branches very close that are way out of focus?

Today I went to Fort Duffel, a recently fully restored WW I fort in the outer ring around Antwerp. However I was not lucky, it will only open to the public on May 4 and due to the ongoing last construction they didn't allow me in. So I had to make do with the view at the entrance gate and through some peep-holes. I thought B&W fitted the theme well.

    thanks philber.

I really like this thread to stay a bit active. I don't have (or plan to get) an a7(R) in the near future so can't join specific thread one, allthough a lot of pictures in there are really excellent and would inspire me to contribute . I wonder how long I can hold out until the GAS takes over

So it will have to be here for the time being

Sony A850 with Maxxum 28-135 zoom.
I've just acquired this zoom and it lives up to its reputation.

Thanks kapil, allthough I also have to admit I'm an equipment whore just like most of the others here. But hey, for me it's a hobby so it really doesn't matter deep down that the equipment only has a minority effect on the end result
