    Re: Fun With Sony _____

Since yesterday was the 400th day of 2014 I took out my old Osawa 400/5.6 (OM mount) and put it on my NEX6. I also took my tripod along and here's two I came home with that I really liked. Fortunately the hood of that lens is long enough, because this almost right into the sun. I think the haze you see is a combination of real mist and some lens flare, but I like the overall effect

    Re: Fun With Sony _____

Last weekend there was plenty of snow in the Belgian Ardennes, so we took a "spur of the moment" 3 day trip to do some cross country skiing. It was mostly cold, we hardly saw the sun and it snowed quite a bit, but we still had a wonderful time.

    Here's some impressions

Shot near Key West Naval Air Station over the weekend. Overcast skies. FA-18F on a training run. I was driving a van as part of the Ragnar Relay, which is a run from Key Biscayne to Key West. I was waiting for one of our runners to finish when these guys started training.

Sony a900, Sony 70-200/2.8. 100% crop. Wish I had more reach so I didn't have to crop so much.

Malina, I didn't see your great photos from 4 days ago until today. Where did you take the shots of the planes? Were you in a plane as well?

DZ, Thank you for the like. I am 53 and still hope to be a passenger in one of those. Since you're in South Florida, have you ever thought of shooting at The Deering Estate or The Thalatta Estate? Neither are as picturesque as Vizcaya but both are beautiful. Both are in Palmetto Bay.

Key West, FL. The sun was bright, the water a bit muddy. Popped the saturation a bit, and cropped out a lot of the bridge because it was extraneous. I know I could have done a bit more with the colors, but this is how I saw it, minus the hot pick vest on the young woman. Sony 70-200/2.8 G and Sony a900.

Final tune up in Boca Raton at the ODP (Olympic Development Program) water polo camp before the nationals in Riverside, CA. My 14 year old (the redhead) is the center on the 14 & under (13 and 14 year olds) Southeast Zone developmental team. All shots with the Sony a900 and Sony 70-200/2.8G. All shots cropped, of course.

This young man is 14, and from the Orlando, FL area. He is playing up a division for the Southeast Zone Cadet Team (15 and 16 year olds). His mom was trying to take photos of the action with her iPhone when I told her I would take a few of her son for her. She was very appreciative when she received the photos.

Not much of an achievement on my part... I can't think of anywhere else (in the South-West, at least) that looks similar...!

I like the second shot too, though I prefer the first since it displays the wonderful location more emphatically. When I tried (some years ago) to photograph that chapel, I was completely underwhelmed by my feeble effort, and deleted most of the shots. Obviously there must have been some kind of problem with the gear...

Many thanks Tim...I'm glad you did recognize it...Otherwise somebody may of thought I cloned that church in from another photograph

PS. What a novel excuse camera equipment failure...I must remember that one

Edit....Another image from your neck of the woods...Wistman’s Wood
Ancient Dwarf Oakwood on Dartmoor.... Nex-6 + 35mm Biogon ZM

From Wiki...The name of Wistman's Wood may derive from the dialect word 'wisht' meaning 'eerie/uncanny' or ‘pixie-led/haunted’. The legendary “Wild Hunt” in Devon is particularly associated with Wistman's Wood – The hellhounds of which are known as Yeth (Heath) or Wisht Hounds in the Devonshire dialect.

Plenty of "sleepers" on my HDD's, nice to take a peep occasionally and just let one or two of them see the light of day here...but most are best kept in hibernation if you get my drift

Another excellent shot Barry - and yes, I know it well. We used to live just a few miles away and we'd sometimes go walking up there, but we haven't been there in recent years.

It's an interesting place, and does have a slightly "eerie" feel. It's also quite difficult to capture properly in a photograph, as I discovered on a couple of occasions... (I do seem to have been a little unlucky with all these equipment failures...).

You've caught the flavour of the place rather well though.

Thanks Barry, and yes, that's certainly the better picture of the two, the cat shot has too many distractions and cat shots per se are not that popular here (or should I say frowned upon) on GetDPI

Nice and punchy Barry, my lust sensors are being tickled

Although for that FOV I have the Oly Zuiko 24/2.8, sharp, punchy contrast and great colors, so not sure I am going to get one. Better put that money towards the a7SII (if and when it will be released )

Likewise Pieter...Nice strong directional light on that Cat.
You would probably be far better off with your 24mm Oly on FF...The ZM 25mm Biogon was a big disappointment on the FF A7R.

The ZM 25mm Biogon was a big disappointment on the FF A7R.
Wonderful shots Barry. BTW the ZM35/2 shoots pretty well on A7r.mod and A7.mod

Thanks Michiel, It will take some time for me to join the "fun with A7" thread, so am trying to spruce a bit of life into this general Sony thread. Barry and a few others are playing along nicely. Not as active as the other thread though.

    a850+Mitakon 85/2 wide open.
This Mitakon Creator is an interesting option for A-mount. I'm still studying its pros and cons against Sony 85/2.8 SAM. Dumping DNGs in here if any one wishes to take a closer look.
