    Re: Fun With Sony _____

A few days before New Year we spent a few days at the Belgian Coast in Knokke. One afternoon we had some special light and clouds. Here's an impression of what we saw:

1: Looking towards the Zeebrugge harbour

2: Impressive cloud, but fortunately no rain where we were

3: A little later, and a bit more quiet in the air

4: Looking the other way, towards "Het Zwin" and Cadzand

5: A bit further I bet it was raining

    6: Clearing out

Just got back from 2 weeks camping at the beach. Have a lot of images to go through, I'm sure I'll be posting a lot here over the next month. Here is a quick one.

Im so impressed with the prime noise reduction in DXO. It doesnt take much for the NEX-7 to get to a noisy mess but it can clean it up with ease, i may have slightly overdone the reduction though.

I lurked on a more sports friendly site for most of the summer. And, I finally put up a bare bones smugmug site because parents say they want to buy - finally. We will see. https://mwgpics.smugmug.com/

Just a shot from across the field. Sony a900 and Sony 70-200/2.8G. The Sony body is a dog after all of these years.

Craig, thanks, I like the image and the business model!
Do they actually honor their stated policy and charge $5?
Or do all customers comply and have to pay $4?
    Very funny too.

Note to myself, need to use my NEX-7 more often.

    Malina - West Palm Beach?

I fondly remember the ZA 851.4 that I had a few years ago. I loved the lens. I can also still hear the sound of it hitting and bouncing off of the pavement after it uncoupled from my camera.

    Re: Fun With Sony _____

No, I didn't fall in love again. It made me miss the A7S, especially every time I had to go hunting through the menu.

I decided to take it this year because of all the sand and water at a beach. Last year I had a Sony action camera with me but the quality wasn't the best so I bought an underwater housing and used the NEX because of the replacement value being low if water did get in compared to the A7S now with the Australian dollar exchange rate being so poor.

Except for low light the NEX is all I need but does lack the ability to be pushed in post as much as the A7S. I see more artefacts in the sky's and solid blocks. I enjoyed the extra dof though going back to the crop sensor. I find the EVF and the EVF display on the A7S helps me get the composition and exposure as I want easier than the older NEX camera. Also the LCD on the A7S makes it easier to spot a soft image. I had a couple on the NEX I believed were ok until viewing on a computer screen. Both are contrast AF while the A7S is more accurate I did notice the NEX doesn't focus on the background like the A7S has a bad habit of doing. With a bird flying over a river the A7S will focus on the trees on the other side too often but the NEX didn't do that at all in this trip.

I'm not really sure : if you look at the way the branches and needles of the tree are falling, then I think the camera decided to flip the orientation all by itself and put things upside down : some times, if you shoot upward or downward with the body almost parallel to the earth, the camera can do that.

But if you remember it was that way with naked eye (not on the LCD nor in the VF) at the time you took the picture, then indeed that is quite remarkable.

Yes, that's the way it was with the naked eye. I was joking to my wife when we saw it there was no hope of finding the pot of gold at the end of it and how unusual it was.

You are right and I found an explanation of this phenomenon here :

Interesting indeed, never saw that myself either. Thanks for sharing.

^^ great spider picture, love the colors and composition.

    Something a bit less scary:

Watching the tide move in (or out)

    A700 + Sony 18-250

This statue was at the flood line of the beach in Knokke (Belgium). It was only visible at low tide, at high tide it was fully submerged. Unfortunately it is now removed (this picture is from 2009)
