    Paul,

You may be as astonished as I am to learn that I actually know this

The one on the left is by Jan Felkl in 1880 and the one on the right is by Ernst Schotte und Co in 1870.

Perhaps you know they are both 'tellurium mit lunarium' to demonstrate the earth's movement round the sun together with the moon's journey round earth, to explain the seasons, day and night, and solar and lunar eclipses.

I, of course only know this because sometimes in museums and galleries there is a description alongside an exhibit which interests me and I snap that description quickly. It also says 'not to scale', I mean, c'mon, a candle as big as the moon!!

I hope I got all that right.

These in the wonderful Globe Museum in Vienna, they said the only one in the world. Charming.

2 more pics therof, very dark in there, these are 2000 & 2500 asa.

This, in the NationalBibliothek, Vienna, reminded me of one of my favourite jokes in which a Trappist monk is writing a letter with a quill pen to a chum, in elaborate Gothic script, with illuminated capitals, etc etc

I cleaned my NEX-7 sensor then went out to see what i could find in the garden. I didnt realise there was 100s of wasps that had moved in. This one had moved from the main bunch with another wasp. I got a cheap macro ring flash but are really happy with it.

Thanks seb, I was lucky there. Normally the curtains behind the drawings were closed and the whole thing was much less interesting. But due to some works ongoing they opened up for a couple of minutes giving the nice backlight and shadows, and that's when I grabbed my chance

You've got to be very nimble, and have just the right lens/sensor combination, to catch these birds as they flit from bough to bough at the edge of the rain forest.
Which is how I came to photograph this bunch of feathers behind glass in Bristol Museum with my lowly little RX100/3.
