Thanks and I love it too. A lot better than I expected and a lot better than other Voigtlander lenses I've owned in the past.

Here is a shot from the Perar 28/4 and the Nex 5n. Nice little lens with similar color rendition to the 35/3.5

Re: Fun with the NEX cameras....

@ Keith. They look so small and cute those Perar lenses and good quality, I believe. But they are not exactly cheap.

@ Djordje, the first one has a nice tonality and composition within all the improvised building work.

    From the series.

Hi Keith, Could you give some information on the price/availability? Thanks!

Also, how does it do on the 7?

    Vivek

As of now, it is in stock at Japan Exposures

japan exposures | films and more (formerly Megaperls Japan Webshop)

    It's around 500Euros

Please note that Douglas in this forum had some issues with centering on the 35mm. I have that lens too, and haven't seen the problem.
I'm trying it on the Nex 7 today

I have been following the conversions of the G 45mm Planar to M mount. Is yours done by Hawk? If so, could we see a photo of the lens?

I am tempted a 3rd time to acquire this lens for a M or NEX conversion.

    Thanks!

Jim, The lens belongs to Robert Jagitsch (Monza). You can PM him here for information on the Hawk conversion. Here it is on my M6ttl.

Cool. Once all of my ebay stuff is sold, I'm planning on sending a few of my M lenses in to Hawks for the conversion.

Hot mirror windows. Shot with IR converted (720nm) NEX5-N and Contax G 28mm f/2.8 Biogon. Raw processed in C1 Pro and in CS5 using Jack Flesher's IR Action.

    False color version.

Thanks Rich. It was converted by DigitalSilverImaging (might be someone who was from Precision) and they recently moved their IR conversion service to the west coast.

Wow....the price has really come down from a few years back. The G-body conversions that many had done was almost double that, if I remember correctly.

Vivek, The windows are completely clear and transparent to visible light but appear to reflect IR strongly, so behave like a hot mirror filter.

Re: Fun with the NEX cameras....

    Thanks, Carl.

    A few more questions....

The reason for this conversion- is to to get rid of the AA filter?

With the 720nm filter, you are probably imaging in the red/deep red.

Without the 720nm, does it work as you expected it to?

The elimination of the AA filter included removing the IR cut filter included in the filter pack. A 720nm IR pass filter replaced the original filter. This was done for near IR imaging and the AA filter elimination was just a side "benefit".

Re: Fun with the NEX cameras....

    Carl, Now, I am confused.

Where does the "hot mirror" come in and why that when going for a dedicated IR cam?

Edit: Got it. Confusing the subject with the camera.
Well, the color palette did not help either.

Thanks Cindy. I'm going to try shooting one of the larger window panels with a longer lens to get a surreal abstract image of the reflection. You can get a better view of the reflections in this full size original image in my DPR gallery.

The "hot mirror" reference was a loose description of the behavior of the window glass. Nothing to do with the camera. Some modern windows have special coatings to either pass or reflect specific wavelengths. I have no idea what kind of coatings these particular windows have, but they definitely reflect a very strong IR image. See link for some discussion of window coatings.

    Thanks, Carl.

I figured that out and edited my post while you posted.

(Mostly such window coatings reflect out a bit far ie., longer than 1100nm)

I posted four large panos taken today with the NEX5-N IR and Contax G 45mm f/2 Planar. They were processed in C1 and CS5 (using Jack's IR actions) and exported as 50% jpegs. They seem to get re-sized when the post is viewed.

Amazing work Carl! The last one is my favourite because of the a-symmetrical composition and the grey tones.

Thank you Michiel. The grey tones are compliments of Jack Flesher's nice 20% grey action for IR toning

I've been admiring your marvelous facades series and hope to see a nice collection of your fine images in a book sometime soon. You must have a nice collection of Contax lenses and I'd like your opinion on the quality of the Contax 28mm f/2.8. It seems to be readily available at a reasonable price and I wonder how you rate the image quality, compared to other 28s you have used on mirror less cameras.

Thanks Carl. I like to work in series, to have a subject besides random shooting.
Indeed I do have most of the Contax lenses till the 135mm, which is known as one of the weaker links in the line up. I think they do make a very good match with the NEX-7. The 28/2.8 distagon is one of the best in the lensline. Sharp and contrasty. I don't have the 28/2 but I don't think it is worth the huge price difference for daylight shooting, besides that it is very big.
The 28/2.8 does compare very well with the Zeiss biogon, which I also have for the GXR.

The lenses I use very much also these days on the NEX-7 are the 20 and 24 MD lenses from Minolta to fill the gap for the 21 distagon, between the 18 and 28 distagons, , which I do have. The 21 is a marvelous lens, but as big as it's price these days. Just to much.

Many thanks for your information Michiel. I may give the 28mm f/2.8 a try on the NEX, and also possibly the Fuji XP1.

Hey, I can't knock a Suburu. We're thinking about getting one this fall to use as a mountain/travel car. Good cars.

My Elmar 90/4 seems pretty flare resistant

And the CZ 24/1.8 is a pretty sharp beast

But even the 18-55 kit doesn't dissapoint at all
