Slow email PM notification

My preferences include email notification to be sent whenever anyone sends me a PM. However I have become aware the notice can arrive from a few minutes to much longer, I think perhaps an hour or more. I also think that I have gotten notices out of order. Is this a general phenomenon at getdpi, or is it my email provider? I don't notice this with other forums. It makes communication difficult when I don't know that the other person has replied!

I'm not seeing much of a delay at all. Seems almost instant actually to my .me /.mac account. It could be your ISP/email as not all of them distribute email immediately.

It just happened again. I got a PM that I read while on the site at 10:30; then at 11:40 I received a notice of the message in my mailbox. This does not happen with mail sent to me from any other forums or senders that I am aware of.

Tom, you could create a free gmail account and test it (assuming that's not your current destination) to provide another data point. I have not noticed a delay, but network quirks can be difficult to pattern and pin down. If you have other e-mail addresses on other hosts you might try those to see if you experience an improvement.

Good suggestion, I will try my other email account.

If your email provider greylists as an anti-spam tactic, then this can explain random hour long delays. Or even completely lost mail.
