I have recently noticed an oddity about USPS shipping prices. Due to the fact that the insurance rate is dramatically lower for Express overnight compared to the rate for Priority 2-3 day shipping, the total cost for sending an insured item via Express can be LOWER than Priority. This point is reached at about $2k insurance, so it only applies to high value items. But these are exactly the items that one would like to get shipped as fast as possible. It also means that as value begins to go up, it may only cost a few bucks more for the Express.
It also means that in the past I've sometimes paid too much for slower shipping!
