Digital P&S donations needed

There is an organization here in Washington D.C. called the Sitar Arts Center that teaches arts to low income kids. I want to teach a photo workshop there, but they cannot allow kids to take the cameras they have there home.

Last year I responded to a similar appeal and donated an older P&S to someone else for the same purpose. I am asking you all if you have an older digital P&S you could donate so I can teach these kids the right way. I want them to be able to take the cameras home so they can shoot between classes and explore the subjects they want to shoot without the restriction of shooting only during the Saturday morning class session. Megapixel count is irrelevant for this purpose. I ask only that you contribute a camera in good working order with a memory card in it.

We all came to photography for different reasons. It would be a "mitzvah" - a blessing, to the kids that are interested in learning photography if we could help them out.

Please email me directly at [email protected] for instructions about sending a camera. If you want me to call you to explain the program, send me your phone number.

Come on everyone - it's for the kids.

Yo Administrator. Can I move this over to the FS/WTB forum? Maybe that is a better place for this public service appeal.

This is a noble thing to do, teaching art to the kids...
I'd love to contribute unfortunately we already gave away the older P&S in the house (one for a similar program).

Best of luck and hopefully more members will notice this thread :)

Hey there aboudd.

Are you only after P&S digital???

I have a lovely Canon T90 and everything else that you would ever need for film system looking for a good home.

I am happy to pay postage. I used to be a kid like you are helping. PM me.

Sitar Arts Center is a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) designation. Your donation is tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Tax identification number 52-2113471. Sitar Arts Center has been named Catalogue for Philanthropy's "One of the Best."

I want to thank those of you who have made donations. Still, this is a worldwide photography forum. Surely we can do better than two or three donations.

aboudd,

You might want to consider seeking cash donations and then using the money to purchase old p&s cameras on ebay. I did this earlier this year and was able to get 16 cameras (with memory cards and batteries) for $400. It is a lot easier to get someone to give you $25 than to give you an old camera.

Good luck with your workshop.

Great idea.

Those of you who have wished me well in my campaign - but did not have cameras to send, can take Mark's option. If you can send a donation, contact me and I will give you instructions.

We are up to 6 cameras now. I want to thank Bob for his generous support of the program. I just had a chat with the director at Sitar, Lorraine Robinson, and she is warmed by the response of our forum's members. KEEP IT UP!

What an amazing group we have. We just got a nice cash donation from Steen,
a fellow forum member in Copenhagen. Thank you Steen. You've now made this an international project!

Update. As of today we are up to 9 cameras - plus some cash to buy more! This is great news. I want to thank those of you have already contributed - it really warms the heart to have such a good response. The rest of you can join in now and if you don't have a camera, make a cash donation.
