I wonder how Chernobyl's impact would have been different had there been an internet in 1986? The Atlantic has some interesting (to say the least) photos of the area soon after the catastrophe, as well as more recent ones showing the surrounding ghost town. The radiation is now "only" 37 times normal, so tourists are visiting the area.
