It's all about money. Farmers in Norway get huge amounts from the Norwegian government every year for loss of animals due to attacks by eagles, wolves and bears. They get far more than the actual loss per animal and the number of animals lost are way beyond what is possible with the tiny population of predators that are left in the country. If they reduce the number of eagles, the farmers will probably still report the same losses as before and they will still get the money.

The only animals that seem to matter these days are those that can be sold for money and eaten by humans. Humanity is on a steady course to exterminate most or all wildlife with the exception of cockroaches and some other bugs that won't be killed with pesticides. But who cares? In the future, you can see your eagles in life-like animations with your 3D VR glasses, and you don't even need to get your feet wet. Soon enough, farm animals will be gone too, and we will all eat different varieties of Monsanto GMO soy beans, made to look and taste like beef or salmon. Brave, new world anyone?

Odd how farmers like to promote themselves as 'guardians of the countryside' ... let's see - rivers full of pesticides and fertilizers, massive overuse of antibiotics, destruction of ancient hedgerows and habitats, growers of frankenfoods, kids full of bovine growth hormone, slaughter of wildlife, and let's not forget - BSE.

Yup, the world is safe in their hands.
