$1-TRILLION Dollars - a graphic example

Photographers are visual, graphic people -- need to see things (right hemisphere dominant, left side permanently out to lunch. :D).

With a crapping economy, budget gyrations, pork barrel spending, and not a dimes difference between the two parties, we are becoming immune to hear "$-trillion here, $-trillion there".

But really is a $-trillion?

Here is an excellent graphic of what $1-trillion dollars is: http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/index.html

ETA: Oops! Stuck this thread in Gear Garage, was supposed to go in the Sunset Bar. Mods - please move it to where it belongs. Thanks!

According to info from the Glenn Beck show:

$1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion)

If you were to count one trillion dollars one bill at a time, it would take 95,000 years.

We could buy 45 million new Mustangs with one trillion.

That is $3300 for every man, woman and child in US to pay back (before interest.)

Note as seen here that only in US and scientific usage is 1 followed by 12 zeroes considered a "trillion." In other countries this would be called a "billion," and what we call a "billion" is what they call "a thousand million."

I know, it all just seems like a bunch of zeroes, but it could be important when you're reading economic news from different countries.

Incidentally, to put the Glenn Beck talk about 45 million new Mustangs into perspective, the most current, recession-ravaged estimate of the US Gross Domestic Product for 2008 is $14.2 trillion (that's US trillions) which means the cost of those 45 million Mustangs would represent about seven-tenths of one percent of the nation's total economic activity.

By the way, in the graphics, I assume the guy in the red shirt is Bernie Madoff (after using Grecian Formula 16) casing the joint before grabbing a few bundles, and in the bottom illustration, if you look about 2/3 of the way up and toward the right, you can see the crate where the Lost Ark is stored.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the fundamental problem with government.
too loose with too much money.
