The impact of camera's role is a personal perspective/choice. One may choose one brand over the other for whatever reason.

AFAIK, no image speaks for itself (other than the embedded or supplied EXIF data) as being taken by a particular camera/gear or a brand.

One of Rick Waldroup's fabulous shots of Obama during his campaign was bought by McGraw Hill for a text book. I doubt if they asked him which camera he used. I am sure none of the viewers/readers would care either as the gear has no impact.

    Vivek,
True enuff... To the viewer but not to the photographer.
We all have our preferences and strive towards a synergy with our GEAR.

Try as I may, I can't get past the FOV of 35mm.
Can I use other lenses, of course but the natural FOV for me
is part of my process.... I need only move around in time and space....
Frame my image, raise the camera and it already sees what I see....
So the camera etc may not be seen by the viewer but then again, maybe it is...
I do the same with my 8 x 10.... It's just how I relate to my process.
If someone responds to an image, then they have responded to my camera and process also....

Some ol' guy once called it Zen....but I ain't never met him but I heard stories about that
    Zen thing.....

the camera is just the mechanism that captures the light captured by the lens.... after the photographers vision... the lens is the element that makes the difference..

RD-1 picture will have a different look... because they are shot with leica or voightlander lenses.. as opposed to digital lenses lik the oly 17mm or the pana 20mm which were designed to entirely diifferent criteria

    just my thoughts...

    Re: Street (images thread)

I suppose when all else is equal then the equipment can make the difference but then all else never is equal. The vision of the photographer is always paramount, I just took that to be self evident. After that other factors become of interest as well. Viewing on a screen or on paper perhaps, and then the quality of each of those comes into play. I was merely struck by the look of the R-D1 images after seeing so many 4/3rds images lately. Perhaps I could have put it more eloquently in the first place but the thought struck and I typed. Hadn't earned the right to intrude having not taken the time to contribute previously to this thread.
I shall leave you all in peace, retreat to the small sensor forum, and continue admiring all your images from a safe distance

Will, I do not think you actually read any of the words typed here. Read post #1 in this thread and my responses to your Espon camera, see also Helen's posts.

Will, Don't you dare.......the conversation and images is what we all offer to each other. Remember, there are more readers on this thread than posters.

My points about the camera effecting the image is not meant to talk about IQ or such. For me there is an awareness of the camera while making images. Sometimes it intrudes and sometimes it lends a hand and sometimes it's just there.....
that's the time I search for.......just to be there, camera in hand......
aware of my place in a shared here and now.......

    snap.......

vivek... i dont care what camera it as taken on.. shot works or doesn't... as for lens... well you have so many and you can make them work on anything... so i am guessing the guy on the elevator was taken with the RD-1... using a milk bottle from the Schlumpff dairy 1947 or maybe a Offenbergensteiner beer glass pre 1967 when they changed the formula of the glass to make it seem more golden

    Simon,

What kind of post processing are you doing to get the 3d look? It's very interesting.

    Jim,

Check this reply (in this thread) to a similar query by Chris about my processing:

    http://forum.getdpi.com/forum/showpo...&postcount=121

In this case, after ACR PP, I used Topaz Adjust 3 for the main processing and then Jeff Ascough's Actions for the vignette.

Please accept my apologies for the paranoid parts of my previous posts.

Wonderful images in here by the way and I do still think that there is a certain something about different equipment that can add or detract from any given image.

Some excellent images of your own, Will. Had I not been told what camera they came from, I wouldn't have guessed these.

I agree that lenses have characteristics that play a part in the image. And so do sensors, just as film did. However, digital processing can play an even greater role in the final image. Some photographers are slaves to the histogram and to detail. Pure white and pure black is avoided like the plague. Some obsess over sharpness. Some love to experiment with digital filters. There are dozens of different ways to convert a photo to black and white, and each has an impact on the outcome.
    Best regards,
    John.

    Fabulous light Seyhoun (Bosporus banks?)!

Here, in the Hague, it is rain and more rain. It does not bode well for (Austrian) tourism promotion either.

I don't know what php code is, I just use the recommended method by the GetDpi site instructions.

OK, I'll try copying and pasting the Picture URL instead of the BB Code:

    http://www.forums.getdpi.com/forum/p...&pictureid=564

In this case I only see a link - do you see the image?

I still think you're right about your browser not reading a code somewhere in there. Others seem to see the images OK so I guess you'll either have to adjust your browser or not bother too much about these images anyway - they're not that important; I do however appreciate your ongoing efforts to resolve the situation.

Here are couple of old (~1 year) snaps:

I am not going to change my settings (there are useful reasons why it is so).

    Sorry, Michael.

From my recent trip to Boston. Here are two versions -- while I find the skintone excellent in the color version, I prefer the B&W, but am curious what others think. B&W was done 100% in my raw software (). GF1 with the 20mm lens, ISO 400, Av mode at f5 (IIRC):

Well, I'm not a good one to give feedback because I'm a b & w fan, but that's the one I prefer. Partially I'm distracted in the color one by the large red area--and strangely by the awning behind him--maybe its the bright lettering on the awning. In the mono I seem to be able to see the subject better. BTW--like the rendering of the jeans in the color LOL-- you miss that 'worn' feel in the b&w.

Jack, B&W, though Diane's point about the worn jeans losing its character in your B&W rendering is a notable aspect.
