Panasonic warranty transferable?

I found a new in the box G1 on Craigslist for $550, but a little uncertain if its worth it to me, if the warranty is not transferable.

Also, couldn't it be said that it is a gift? People receive Panasonic products as gifts all the time, and they are not the original purchasers, yet I'm sure their products are covered.
