No more than 10 miles from Home

The idea of this thread is to show images you shoot close to home:

    about 6 miles.

Good idea Uew. I don't have a 4/3rds camera to contribute here, but I like the photo anyway. What kind of treatment did you do to the image to get the brush stroke effect? I like it, especially with the muted tones of the image.

I told Terry in another forum that a photo a day had been a challenge for me--I shoot mostly on the farm as that's where I am every day--we've been self employed and now I guess semi retired. I also shoot a lot within that 10 mile area also--so this thread is made for me LOL.

I made this thread because we like the challenge to find images locally. And there is a lot to be found.

Blending is adictive. I hardly ever like the not blended image better.

Is there some BA group (Blending Anonymous)?

Re: No more than 10 miles from Home

This was one i shot last Spring--the last pods on a Golden Rain tree

    G1/FD 35 f/2.8

    G1/EF 45 f/2.8 TS with EOS adaptor

the gate/fence in front of my studio last March
    G1/45-200

    GF1/20 f/1.7

Edit: I saw Uwe's statement about the blending being addictive. As I was looking through my 'locals', that was in my mind. I can see blending for all of these--esp. the tomato one.

This one is from the Lost Dog Wash hiking area in North Scottsdale, which is 4.5 miles from my house to the parking lot and 2.5 miles from the parking lot to this spot:

This one is from the Desert Garden park, also in North Scottsdale, maybe .5 miles from my house:

Both were captured with a GF1 / Olympus 14-35 combo.

Will, that shot is really intriguing... feels almost underwater.

Went to a local concert the other night. Band from my school, Rule 5.
Here is the lead singer Julia.

E-P1 with either my FD 50mm f/1.4, FD 35-105 f/3.5, or LTM 85mm f/2.... was shooting with a full bag of lenses that night and so am not quite sure which was responsible for which shot due to the lack of exif data with legacy lenses.

Re: No more than 10 miles from Home

Brrrrr. Our snow is gone but now we have Guy's awful storms that have moved from our west (rain, wind, etc.) I like snow better LOL.

You're convincing me more and more to just keep the 45 on one of my bodies.

Glad to see one of the horses--blanketed and all. My understanding is that you don't get snow often--maybe less than we do in our 'northwest' south. But--our mts. are deep--roads closed and I usually shoot in the mts. in the winter---but not this year.

Its beautiful, isn't it?? But it does melt and turn to mud LOL--at least here. There are still big piles in parking lots higher than my waist since our big snow before Christmas.

    Thanks for sharing.

Last week on the one decent day I carried the 20 on the GF1 and the 45 on the G1. Very nice, small--FL range I like. I haven't had enough shooting with it to say how I feel definitively, but so far--I like. I may be able to find one good day--right now we're getting Guy's storms from AZ LOL.

I'll look forward to hearing what you think Uwe.

Re: No more than 10 miles from Home

Finally something new to add to this thread lOL. Nothing really that special here--sort of falls into the 'strange weather' situation. We had Guy's AZ storms here yesterday and last night and our own small river that is our back border is higher than we've ever seen. Unfortunately I was unaware of it until later in the day and then went down to the fork in the road where the river curves around a cow/horse pasture and barn and found these fellows boating in the pasture. I asked them if they were looking for something or having fun--fun, they said LOL. Earlier in the day I was told that the water was up to the horse trailers windows. The river is normally beyond the far tree line. It was a tough time of the day to photograph--and the angle. Notice that the boaters are in short sleeve Ts--and then its supposed to snow Thurs. night.

These are the cows--contemplating their new 'lake view' LOL. Has to be a bit confusing--and it was much higher--as you can tell from the 'bank'.

And this is our own and our neighbors river bottom pastures--as far as you can see down the river it is like a lake. The riverbanks are quite steep and fairly tall so it had to come up many many feet to do this. The river itself is beyond the row of far trees--but who would know LOL.

This is less than 1 mile from my home (walking distance) in a spot called the Como Pleasure Grounds which was a picnic spot in the early 1900s. It is an old river swimming baths complete with shark netting. Dogs disappear at a regular rate further up the river being a favourite of our large fishy friends.

It is about half an hour before official sunrise but within 15 minutes of this shot all the colour had gone from the sky and it was bucketing down.

Gorgeous image Carl... and beautiful bokeh. I'd like to see a 45-200 in my future! (7-14 first, though.)
