comparing OM 50mm f1.8 (at f2.8 to be equal)

    the 110

    the OM50

    100% segment

looking at the black chord up there in against the wall I reckon bokeh is gonna be interesting outside tomorrow in the snow!

There shouldn't be. 110 has an image size 17x13 mm which compares to the MFT 1813.5 mm in the same ratio (22.5 mm diagonal) and generally uses an imaging area of 17.313 mm.

Wow, those are some tiny lenses. How easy is it to focus, especially the smallest?

I ordered mine on the 26th and can't wait ... If eventually I can get hold of an E-PL 1 body for them it'll be with me on the street at all times.

I stare out the window daily at noon, hoping the mailman will bring mine...I've got the 70mm and 20-40mm zoom ready to go. The zoom in particular is going to look and feel great on the GF1...hope the pics are good.

    Diane:

Lot's of info on this site, just search Pentax 110.

The first adapter was from Hawk Factory, and I've used it for many months. Posters such as turbo and chrisJ have workarounds for the fact that the lenses are locked at f2.8

Nice lenses and still a good buy

I think Vivek was the first here to mount an 18mm to the G1

    Thanks, Keith.

Here is a link to that thread: http://forum.getdpi.com/forum/showth...ght=Pentax+110

As I informed Keith through a PM, I also have one Pentax 110 18mm lens in a T/S contraption. It works fine with limited movements.

I'm not sure how I missed this--but I evidently did. I try to keep up on alternative lenses--so will check it out. Thanks.

Re: Pentax 110 adaptor from RJ Camera has arrived

I've got my zoom glued to the hacked en sanded remains of a 39mm LTM thread. Focuses to infinity with a little bit (about half a mm) of flange left. This is a good method for the heavier 110 lenses, because the original mount is sooo tiny and fragile.
The zoom feels great on the GF1. Haven't found a fitting cap yet to make a rear-aperture.

Re: Pentax 110 adaptor from RJ Camera has arrived

for those who are interested, I've put some of this mornings test images up on my blog

    http://cjeastwd.blogspot.com/2010/02/pentax-110-g1.html

compared the 24mm against the standard zoom and the 50mm against the zoom and the OM 50mm f1.8

nothing really scientific, available snow scenery and a consistent approach

Great effort! Thanks for all your work!

What's the deal regarding a 'light leak' with the adapter? I gather you've seen nothing. i wonder why the ebay entry mentions it?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Re: Pentax 110 adaptor from RJ Camera has arrived

The hurdle for me is gaining control of aperture for these lenses, though I agree that in many cases fixed f2.8 is fine.

Did some research on adapters and the 'no aperture' issue. Found this link:

Not much info, but looks intriguing! Haven't seen mention of this kind of solution in this forum. Anybody have any insights?

    Best,
    Tom

Re: Pentax 110 adaptor from RJ Camera has arrived

Don't remember where, but I've seen examples of the rear-lens aperture. There is a big risk of vignetting, ofcourse. The original shutter/aperture is rectangular. I am planning to make an aperture-rear cap with such an opening. As soon as I can get a fitting cap...
Anyone have a spare rear cap? It should fit inside the m39mm mount that I glued to the back of the 20-40 zoom.

Re: Pentax 110 adaptor from RJ Camera has arrived

Tom, there's been a few home grown solutions here on getdpi with apertures incorporated. Personally I am not so inclined to go that far with these little guys

I really like the 50mm but the 24 is just too puny and looks kind like a shrunken head on a normal body

the thing is (for me) that if you're going to stop down at all then I'd be just as happy using the standard zoom lens.

As to the reason why Jinfinance puts on the disclaimer I can only guess that its because some people are really NOT the sort of people who should be tinkering and will get worried about stuff ... I recall a person getting worried that a packet of salt might be past its use by date "well, you never know, it could go bad"

    hmmm

glad the post was useful ... I wrote it as I was evaluating my test results from todays testing, so it actually works out well for my focus.

    :-)

The Pentax performs surprisingly well...thanks for doing all that!

Pellicle: thanks for the links. I saw the pin-hole approach from ChrisR, but didn't see other thread.

Just got mine...seems to be pretty robust. It should be easy enough to plug the light leak with a bit of foam or adhesive felt. Rather a drag to have to do that, though.

As I understand it Rong Jin says you'll only need to be careful with long exposures, normal shooting speeds won't register any light leaks.

I tried shielding it with cloth and unshielding it to no noticable effect. I was going to stip some felt from a used 35mm cassette but after trying it couldn't work up the energy to solve the problem

hawkpeng seems to have a better adaptor (US$135) which also has a nicer fit to the lens it seems. meaning that the edge doesn't hang over like this:

this may make for some benefits in the case of one dropping the camera, but doesn't seem to make much difference otherwise.
