    Now we are talking!

I know this isn't 4/3 related but the audience is similar.
Looks like Ricoh does have plans to do a sensor unit with a lens mount for interchangeable lenses.

That does totally change what the GXR becomes. Its a shame there are only some pics releases and no hard info.

Yup, that's pretty cool right there. Keeps the form factor as small as possible (no need for adapters to add to the lens length). Unfortunately, having to buy sensors for each platform could get mighty pricey.

Still, we are very lucky that there are manufacturers out there that are catering to a legacy camera market.

Interestingly enough, dpreview has pulled the story until they check with Ricoh. Richard Butler says its the first time they have ever pulled a story but they would prefer to give correct info.

Someone translated (though he says his Japanese is not so great) as "If my rusty Japanese hasn't failed me, those addition images were not part of anything official that Ricoh were showing off, but rather mockups made by a Japanese photographer/collector called Fumio Nakamura, who did them for the February issue of a Japanese camera magazine as speculation about what future GXR products might be like. ".

Yes, that's correct, they were mockups not from Ricoh. Nakamura did the same thing about a year ago, fabricating rudimentary adapters for various lenses on the G1.

His bio is at the bottom.

    Oh my,
Beings that this is a m4/3 area, I'll stick with my Pen.
That Ricoh doesn't do anything for aesthetic design.

    HAHAHAHAHA......

If it's too good to be true.........

I was just gonna say - that must be the cheesiest mock-up ever with the black tape. Still a nice idea though - especially with the M-lens adapter.

"Thou shalt not build cameras with Lensors"

Moses has/had more sense than that

Prototypes always start of with ideas, followed by cardboard, instant glue, and gaffer tape. Moses would have done it with papyrus

    Lensor.

That is a perfect name for the Ricoh contraption.

Ricoh, take note at the momentary excitement this generated. And how about taking the modular approach a step further with a legacy lens module that has switchable mounting plates?

Vivek, I know. But someone else did it first. I'm always somewhere in the late adopters crowd

    Re: Now we are talking!

Have a look at this link, http://ricohforum.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=4339

It shows a Ricoh APS-C 28mm f2.5 pancake (or semi-pancake) lens for the GXR. This looks like a real Ricoh mockup or maybe even possibly a working lensor.

It would have to take the award for the biggest sensor in the smallest camera!

    Re: Now we are talking!

If Ricoh could make one with a small but excellent built in viewfinder/rangefinder, without making it look like a DSLR, I think that would be perfect.

    Re: Now we are talking!

Clay, That would be a great camera. I don't think anyone but Leica could do it.
Maybe some kind of digital range finder. I think the viewing and a focus scale is the real issue. The GF2 mock up, add a focus scale and that's real close to a perfect all around camera..... I'm not holding my breath.
Ricoh makes a very elegant interface. This camera just doesn't show elegance at all.

    Re: Now we are talking!

Hmm...why can't someone like Ricoh make a standard, fast lens like the 28mm f2.5 shown above, but have it small at rest and extend out when powered up, like so many of the zooms? The current standard lens module for the GXR is too bulky, IMO.
