Really superb images that you have shown in this thread! Any chance of seeing some color images from the 35/2 ? This is the first Contax lens that I'm probably going to buy, along with the latest Kipon ring-focus adapter, to use on EP1.

    Hi Owen,

I posted a few color images taken with the 35/2 in the following thread and Robert (Monza) also has some superb color shots taken with the 35/2 in the same thread.

    Hi Carl,
Thanks, very much, for providing the link to those 35/2 images! I actually read that entire thread from start to last, over the weekend, but did not retain that there were color 35/2 images to see, again, therein. They are exactly what I wanted to see. Thank you for putting these up for all to view.
I also noted, that on that page of your photos you had mentioned ordering the "monza" adapter. May I ask, how you are getting on with this one?..if indeed this is the very one that you are using, still.

    Thanks,
    Owen

I am still using the monza adapter with my 90mm lens, but also use a Kipon (geared thumbwheel version) with my 28, 35, and 45 lenses. You might want to check the posts in the adapter discussion thread for additional comments about the performance of the two adapters.

Wow Carl, that's some depth of field in that shot.
Jeez, it's almost like even the area behind the camera is in focus!

Thanks retnull. Focus was on the ducks at f/8 and distant shore (cropped out) was not in focus so DOF actually not that deep.

Both bokeh and colour are fabulous! I am looking forward to my adapter for a 35mm on a NEX.

    Dan or anyone

I like to take picture of flowers but don't know much about them. I see Dan's picture of a Cosmos and although it looks similar to my posted picture there is a significant difference: my petals are like a tube and Dan's are flat. Otherwise they look similar. Is my flower a Cosmos?

Leuallen, it is a Cosmos. You will see a picture of a similar cosmos if you scroll down the page at this website: http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/1248/

Comments from the webpage: "Seashells' is a newer cultivar of Cosmos that resembles no other member of its family. Each petal forms a hollow tube resembling a seashell or cornucopia. 'Seashells' comes in a variety of colors from bright white to deep fuchsia. If you can't find 'Seashells,' 'Pied Piper Red' is a variety that looks very similar."

    GF1 with Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 90mm f2.8 -- ISO 100 -- f2.8 -- 1/15 -- with Metabones Contax G to m4/3 adaptor

I picked up the Metabones adaptor for Contax G Lenses from the post office today. I have limited chance to use the lens/adaptor combo this evening but I am enjoying the ease and ability to focus with less effort. Not the same as a manual lenses experience but it is an improvement over the side wheel. I'll hopefully have an opportunity this weekend to try shooting with the 45 & 90 lenses with the two adaptors for a few comparison shots.

Re: Fun with Contax G lenses on m43

So I was brave and took my time but I cut off the legs (5mm) off each of my 28mm and 21mm Contax G lenses. When I put them on the Metabones adapter I do not see the heavy vignetting that I've seen with the other adapters.

Could this be true? Could this adapter give us edge to edge sharpness. I'll do more testing outdoors this weekend to see.

These pics were just a quick test before night came so I just shot my messy desk and some text looking specifically around the center and edge of the frame with the 21mm lens wide open.

Looking good with the 28 & 21 lenses. Try some landscape shots at f/8 and then check the corners at 100%. My 28 does pretty good, but there is some very minor corner softness.

Sounds good Sho, I'll see if I can do that this weekend. I can live with a little corner softness. I'm hoping that we'll find some good results.

Great stuff seakayaker. You are really just having a ball with your Contax G lenses.

I took just a few quick run of the mill Philly landscapes at f/8 with the 21mm lens. I think it holds up pretty well. There's a tiny bit of fall off and vignetting when I look and compare all my pics using photoshop to examine in more detail but over all edge to edge sharpness is really nice. I again was expecting not so great results but was surprised to see how well the sharpness held up.

Just for kicks I attached my Raynox HD-6600PR055 wide angle adapter and I was pretty shocked at how well it held up too. When I pixel peep, theres a difference obviously and you can see vignetting and softness but I was expecting far worse. Still very useable to me.

    Very nice shots gmoe!

    I have the Contax G 45/2 & 90/2.8. I would not be confident enough to buy the 21 & 28 and start cutting. Perhaps the 35mm some day . . . . .

Congratulations on the successful surgery and seeing the positive results!

    GF1 + Metabones

My only complaint with the Metabones adapter is that it's too big.. ordered a steadicam and the adapter is often too big, so that limits your choices on quick release mounts and accessories. Other than that it works nicely.

We took a drive over to the 3rd finger lake to our west (Keuka Lake) to visit some wineries on this most beautiful of all the finger lakes. Used the G1-IR with Contax G 28mm f/2.8 Biogon and a G2 with Lumix 14-45 kit lens.

A lunch stop at a little lakeside cafe

Bully Hill vineyard on the west shore

    Hay for mulching the vines

    Heron Hill vineyard

    and of course some grapes

Carl, are these IR images cropped, as I can't find any smearing in them, at all, even in the corners. The 21mm images, back up the page, show obvious smearing. Still haven't bought a 35/2, yet, but may decide to go with the 28mm after seeing these.

    Owen,

Some of these are cropped, but here is a link to the full size, un-cropped version of the hay bales image above. I have not seen any edge smearing in the 28 images, but there is some slight corner softness, particularly at wider apertures. I normally shoot at about f/8 so I don't have any problems. The 35 is a bit sharper across the frame at all apertures.

Thanks, Carl! The fullsize image is just great! That's all the quality I could hope for, in a 28mm RF lens on m4/3.

    Carl,

For someone who has been shooting ir for 4+ years, I love your photos in post #95, especially the first (my favorite), second, and the grapes --all three are excellent. Some day when I upgrade my G1, I'll convert my G1 to ir, until then I will continue shooting IR with my converted Canon G9. Keep posting those wonder IR photos.

Thank you Howard. I think you will enjoy using the G1 as an IR camera.
