    Ciao,
Simon, it blows away the equivalent Petax kit lens, I am floored. It also focuses much much faster than the K100d. Almost silnet focus as well.
    Very Impressed

Just curious Lili, is that a jpeg output, and did you do any post processing on it? Also, just how compact is that whole rig? I've got D300's at the moment but I'd love something smaller to tote about.

I just picked up an LX3 but with a DP1 GRD II and GX100, I'm just not sure if I'll keep it. Still looking for more reach in a small package.

    Ciao,

Simon, it is a jpeg straight from camera, no Post at all.
It is, by numbers, just bit smaller than the K100d (say 15% or so), in hand it feels much smaller and lighter. The kit lenses are much smaller than the Pentax Kit equivalents. Despite having 'only' three focus points, it focuses MUCH faster and more accurately IMHO.
The integral focus motors are MUCH quieter than the K100d's body mounted motor.
Here is body sans lens next oto my GRD for scale

Prices of these (410kits) have dropped below many P&S cams!

Congrats on your new cam, Lili. very sharp shots.

    Now *why* did I sell my E410 .... ??????

I still have the 14-42 and 40-150, still waiting to see the G1 results before I decide which way to go, back to Oly or onward to Panny m4/3.

    Have fun, post more!!

    Joan

Tank you Joan, I am sure the G-1 or any forthcoming Oly E or m43 series are gonna be great.

Honestly Guy, I've no clue; all I've done so far have been very-low-compression jpegs, only one, Number 607, have any PP.
If you like I can send you some raw files from the Oly and you can test it?

    Hi Lili
    Lovely shots . . . that colour :-)
The two kit lenses are stupidly small aren't they . . . . and then when you get to use them they're really good quality.

For me, the joy of the 4:3 is that almost all the lenses are excellent, from wide open and at all focal lengths. I guess the new 9-18 would cost almost as much as your kit, but that's a lovely little lens too.

    Go for it Guy!

Jono, they are indeed, tiny light, sharp as heck and they both focus FAST.
    I am seriously impressed

If it's a toy, don't mess with the 14-54, it's faster, but it's bigger as well, and those two little kit lenses do a great job.

I wish you were a bit closer, and you could borrow mine for a week or so.

It's not a miracle, but it works really well. But it isn't teeny like the 420

yea i know, about as big as the Nikon D300. i played with all of them in a store the other day.

Not sure about that Sigma 150 macro and maybe the 40-150 maybe be a better option

Sounds good to me (that 50mm macro is a really sharp lens)

Better (IMHO) than any of the Sigma alternatives (which are simply sigma lenses with a 4:3 mount fitted - none of the telecentric bit).

Sounds good to me (that 50mm macro is a really sharp lens)

Better (IMHO) than any of the Sigma alternatives (which are simply sigma lenses with a 4:3 mount fitted - none of the telecentric bit).

I second the motion, Oly lenses are simply wonderful, even the kit lenses give wonderfull IQ

Guy, don't spend $269 on the 40-150mm lens. You can pick it up lightly used on eBay or on the 4/3 Photo buy/sell board for $100 almost any day of the week.
Many prefer the older 40-150 kit lens (a bit faster and with metal mount) and it's also easy to find.

I third the motion. That's a great little kit! However, I'd recommend:

    -E-520 - 2 lens kit w/ 14-42 and 40-150
    -50/2 macro

That way you have the 14-42 for when you want to go really small and light. You can add the 12-60 later for the higher quality. Getting the 14-54 now puts you in that intermediate range. I think eventually you'd sell it to go smaller and/or higher quality.

I'd agree with this, too, but unfortunately Dell doesn't have the 2 lens kit, only the body only or body + 14-42. (I'd do that and buy the 40-150mm used).

Then you could get the EX-25 with the 50mm macro, gives you 1:1 and better working distance for shooting the little critters, etc.

Isn't it fun spending other peoples' money (or Dell credit, as the case may be)?

    Joan

This looks very good, Lili. But, for me, the color version provides some additional pizzazz that I like even better.

The 520 is lovely Bertie . . . and you got the image stabilisation - lucky old you.

I'm sure you'll be very happy together (much cheaper than a lawn massacre device).

At least American lawn mowers come with instructions in American, which I more or less understand; where as buying here in Switzerland I have a choice of French, German or Italian manuals...and I couldn't find in them how to set the camera's menus to English...but I needn't have worried, it was already properly set

And it's a very nice camera; I think the grip suits my hands better than the 410.

Yes indeed, I had a 510 for a bit, and really enjoyed it (it only went when I got the E3).

During all my camera excursions over the last few years, the Olympus 4:3 has been the only constant companion (well, let's be honest, I did sell out in jan 2004 and buy back in July).

    Re: e410 test shot

Joan just read your comment , too late. I am not so sure about the 40-150 either read the reviews and they are okay. I may sell it if it does not work at least it was cheap reason I just said heck with it. I think with 10 percent off it was 269.00. Worth a shot

What is the best fast lens least in like 24,25 and 30mm there are a couple at 1.4

    Guy, it's a toy.
The leica 24 f1.4 is generally considered to be okay . . . . notable that Olympus have never produced anything less than f2, which, i think, is because they (unlike everyone else) stick to the telecentricity laws they set up, with the result that even the cheap lenses are good.

But this isn't a low light machine, so you really don't need fast lenses (IMHO of course).

    Enjoy!
