    Hi Peter,

all I know about farming is what is in my fridge ...
However, I suppose this mysterious ritual is to measure the volume of the bull's ... errh ...
And then the bigger the better ?

    Kind regards.

Since I don't think the objects in the cup would float, this is a way to measure their volume, not their weight. But was this a contest of some sort? And what awesome amount won it?

The object does not float and yes, it measures the displacement of water and then this is converted to a weight, 0.8L was deemed to be 0.8kg. To me there is a flaw in the process as does not float and it would mean the jewel box is denser than the water being displaced.

It was a contest but what struck me was the pot used for the water had an integrated spout and seemed perfectly sized to maybe this process is more common than you expect.

I seem to recall the prize was a small packet of chocolates and the closest guess was 855 - presumably grams although not noted.

There was some dispute to this as the process also involved the weighing of 2 bulls (one of which was 855 kg) and only one person had put down a weight for the jewels due to confusion on if it was part of the guessing competition.

Anyway, the judge made the call and the prize awarded.

Getting the summer swimming hole below lower Enfield Falls ready for the season. Lifeguard and diving platforms are freshly painted and ready to install, steps below waterline are white washed, and dam boards are going in to create the pool.

I have not had the 60mm Macro out since last year, so I thought I should dust it off and give it some use today.

Re: Fun with the Olympus OMD

Our daughter just graduated from high school. They end the year not with caps and gowns and a procession but with a really bang-up musical variety show ( and an all-night after-party). Sight lines from deep in the parents' seats in a shallow slope auditorium were pretty bad, so we went up to a side balcony with the E-M1 and 75/1.8. Pretty much everything was shot at ISO 800 and f/1.8, and shutter speeds were high. Here are a few highlights from the album:

    P6111075

    P6111152

    P6111242

    P6111340

This next number makes no sense unless you know that they are singing a well-known song describing in detail the heroic (and very bloody) battle of Ammunition Hill and the Hebrew word for "ammunition" sounds a lot like the word for "examination," an activity that has consumed the year just past:

    P6111357

    P6111410

Lots of lovely shots Julian - I just love the boats and the flower shot with the 75 f1.8 - I must dust mine off and get it going again.
Bart, your macro stuff is lovely as always - especially the thorn and the Allium above.

I've been away in China without my E-M5ii - Emma however fell in love with her brand new E-M10 (mostly with the 14-150 zoom).

Back home now - here's a shot with the Leica 50 APO summicron (well it needed to be tried!).

Bart, I think the bird has cleaner feet

Actually, your challenge took me to this post on dpreview which points out the greater detail one can achieve (only noticeable at 100% magnification) by shooting at ISO 100 rather than ISO 200... I had a look at the comparometer on imaging resource and it does look evident (for those of you with fighter pilot eyesight lol)

    Kind regards

One reason I try to shoot at ISO 100, if circumstances allow, is that, to my eyes at least, it shows cleaner results in the OOF area (less 'grainy').
For your reference: the first shot is ISO 1000 and the second ISO 200.

Anyway, good try and thanks for playing, but it's not the answer to this little challenge ...

    Kind regards.
