    Re: M4/3 to Leica

    Hey!
Are you lot talking about me?
Of course Kevin insulted me deeply and woundingly . . . I've only forgiven him because of his lovely partner.

erm.. . . where was I . . . I know! No, sorry, no R-D1, i sold mine for rather a lot more than I paid for it . . . regretted ever since. As Mark says, I do have other cameras (too many, but I like them all). (A900, Gx100, E3)

I can't do a comparison between an M8 and a G1 shot with the same lens . . . . because I don't have an adaptor for the G1 yet,and I'm not a Vivek (so I can't make one for myself). On the other hand, I might do one when the adaptor arrives.

May be a while though, I'm off on holiday on Saturday for a week (slithering down icy slopes on a couple of planks).

I think that Mark's your man!

    Just this guy you know

    Shoot a newspaper something!

By posting 1mp photos to show a quality of a lens is like posting nothing!

You obviously are not aware of the work that Vivek has done with his home-made adapter and his exotic lenses on the G1. I will be bolting my pre-ashpheric summiluxes (35 and 50) to my G1 as soon as my adapter arrives. Hector....I don't have, but how about a Summarex?

Y.B., I'm sorry, I didn't get the "sarcasm" behind your poem. Nice Noctilux photo. That is one lens I'm sorry that I let go.
    Is your adapter hand-made, too?

Cindy, yup... I used the female M mount off a 14127 Leitz adapter and mated it to the G1 male thingy (taken off the kit lens) with epoxy filler to taste...

Now, really! The kit lens is quite decent really, even wide open. And, itīs convenient to use. Only wish it were a stop faster...

    Re: M4/3 to Leica

I picked up an OUFRO (16469) from KEH in excellent condition. However, when I try to put on my 90 AA or 50 pre-asph it is extremely tight and will not rotate so the pin can lock. It stops just short of it. Is this typical? Are there only certain lenses this fits on? Thank.

Thanks. Will do. Got it to use on the G1 when I get an adapter. Was just checking out for fit and was surprised at the the tightness.

I also ordered one from B&H but it was shipped to NY so I won't be able to test it until I get to NY on Thursday.

Hmm, what about the Leica Apo-Summicron-R 180mm f/2? That would be wild. One might even miss the camera at a glance

Not quite. I recently updated the wikipedia.org Leica Camera page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leica_Camera) with this information:

    Noctilux means f/0.95-f/1.2
    Summilux means f/1.4
    Summicron means f/2
Summarit means f/2.5 in the current lineup
    Elmarit means f/2.8
    Elmar means f/3.5-f/4

    Re: M4/3 to Leica

Hello! This thread has helped motivate me to loosen the credit card on a G1, ahead of the G HD version I was planning to wait for. And after seeing Vivek's success w/his Canon .95, I'm bemoaning the fact that I didn't hold onto the 50/1.2 I sold w/its Canon mdl 7 long ago...

While I await delivery and plot which of my legacy lenses I want adapters for, thought I'd add a reminder that the upcoming 20/1.7 is a pancake design, and looks not all that much deeper than the ZD 25/2.8

I'll bet (hope) it's going to perform quite decently, and we know it will be AF, practically weightless, and adapter-free. The only downside might be the lack of availability until Spring or later. pic:

    Re: M4/3 to Leica

Perhaps I should have phrased that a bit better.

Gero, Since I have a big pile of LTM adapters, I now take them for granted.

The thin one looks like a step ring. Nothing special (in terms of its looks). No name.

There are some longer ones which do have names- DOORX, for example.

I just looked on ebay for one of those Canon .95's. All this talk was making me want one. I was surprised to see how expensive they have gotten!

I guess you mean: from micro 4/3 to M. I donīt have an image of the setup, but the adapter is only 8 mm thick. A Summicron 35 or 50, or a Tele Elmarit 90 (all with the original lens shades) is a very good balance on the camera, and easy to work with (the infinity lock on some lenses is a nuisance, but so it was on a Leica M2 body as well IMHO).

    Re: M4/3 to Leica

    thank you.

It just seems that this camera would be grate for micro 4/3 native lenses (like 25-1.7 or 15-1.4).

What I would want is a camera like this with the same pixel size but with a ff scuare sensor for all of the image area on M lenses (and M mount). How many m.pixels would that be?

    Re: M4/3 to Leica

I would think it would be four times what the G1 is, so roughly 48MP.

    Re: M4/3 to Leica

    The 4/3 sensor is approximately quarter-frame, I believe, so 12 x 4 = 48 as Simon says.

Although I'd rather have 4x bigger pixels.

    Re: M4/3 to Leica

It'll be a tad different for square, but still in the 48MP ballpark. Depends whether you lop some off, or add some.

    a 48mp camera for M lenses?

yes please and make it so that you could select also for high iso low mp count.

    Re: M4/3 to Leica

To get high ISO, I think you'd need larger pixels, hence less MP. Say, like a D700...full frame, 12mp, 6400 ISO (easy)

    Re: M4/3 to Leica

I'm sure some of you remember 1/2 frame. Well they could have called M43 1/2 frame as it is actually slightly larger. 1/2 frame would be 18x12 and the M43 is 18x13.5. Half frame was popular in smaller versions of FF cameras.

    Re: M4/3 to Leica

On second thought, if we squared off the existing sensor it would be 3/3 (from 4/3) so it would be 9MP. Therefore a FF square sensor would be 36MP. Right?

    Re: M4/3 to Leica

Simon, that sounds right. So in theory it is possible and we just have to wait for it to happen.

I do like the idea to have a lot of pixels for a sunny day. (or is that a ranny day?)

we do have the ranny ones ahead
