I wonder if the quoted 24-75mm is full frame equiv. or subject to the usual m4/3 x2 crop? If the latter it would make a very decent travel compact indeed.

I really doubt that they would release a 48-150mm fixed lens camera.

Sure sounds like a good travel camera... the GX7 with 12-35mm lens is a tad bulky.... when I see the specs tomorrow, if it is what I think it will be... I will pre order one... the LX7 replacement.

I'd take the GM-5, but then again I am still thrilled with my GM-1 and think the GX-7 is still a knockout camera. Panasonic have it down, I think.

Also a Leica version too! A replacement for the much loved Leica D2 perhaps?

Yes, the LX100 or its D-Lux sibling look to be very nice indeed. I'll have to take a look at one at the store.

The only thing I don't like about it is the way the lens extends so much when powered on. It's a tiny nitpick, but one of the nice things I really like about the new Leica X compared to my 'rediscovered' X2 is the fact that the X' lens neither extends nor collapses. It's one of the things I've disliked about most modern zoom lenses on any camera.

Sigh. There are too many nice cameras out there nowadays.

    Hi Dave
and in the UK the D-Lux is less than 50 more than the LX100 - makes a pleasant change!

I really like this camera! Can anyone tell me if it takes DNG (Raw) files?

    Thanks

    HI Peter
I'm not certain - but the V-Lux uses RWL (Panasonic) files - so I imagine this will use the same RAW files. (ie not DNG)

    Jono,

at preview it was mentioned that the new Dlux would support RAW (DNG). Not sure if this is right or wrong ....

There were a lot of mistakes in the original LX100 specs so I would definitely believe that there could be bad info. The tech specs page from Leica just says RAW/JPEG

Yes I know. Anyway there was hope but I rather fear that means no DNG ....

Re: Awesome micro 4/3 camera coming!

Here in the U.S. the price increase is $296 for the D-Lux Typ 109 camera and an additional $160 for a grip (B&H prices). If all they offer is a 3 year warrantee and Lightroom for $456 then I don't think they will sell many.

How about giving us DNG raw, better quality JPEG'S, as found in previous D-Lux models, and a serious re-think of the user interface. Get rid of all the superfluous bells and whistles and make the user interface clean like an M or S Leica. I think this camera has so much potential, and it would be sad to see it go unused.

Re: Awesome micro 4/3 camera coming!

hmmm im facing a tough choice.

my parents recently broke their panaosnic TZ25. one thing they complained is when printing in large sizes (like A4 or A3), the quality isnt really up to it.

mum favors the GM1 over oly stylus 1 in the past (due to size and the cool sliver + orange leather-like grip). but dad wants an EVF. nether want to change lens.

GM5 obviously fits the bill some what, but zoom range is quite a cut down from TZ25. also the compact zoom has relatively small aperature when compares to LX100/D-lux. plus the flash unit is not built-in. not sure if they want the hassle...

i just wish leica will come up with a sliver D-Lux with some colour grip like their X series.

i might get them to try canon G1x mk2...but that's quite a bit bigger still.....

PS: they are those retired travel around the world type people.

PSS: no, im not some rich kid looking for next place to spend money. im 3X year old hard working person that can afford my toys.

It doesn't worry me. RWL files are just fine providing that there is a decent profile for use with C1 Pro! The camera looks great but I am not too sure about the "cropped" m4/3 sensor. However I do like that there is a lever to change size ratio rather than having to dive into overly complex menu's!
