What happened to fill flash on Olympus E-M1 MII?

On my E-M1 there is a flash setting labelled "fill flash". The manual for the new Mark II shows no such setting.

Any ideas why? What would you recommend to achieve the functional equivalent.

By the way, what is the difference between normal flash and red-eye (i.e. what does the camera do differently)?

Thanks for your help; my new Mark II is supposed to arrive later today and I want to be ready.

I'd guess normal and fill flash are essentially the same thing. You can always change the output of the flash by dialing-in a negative or positive flash correction value, in case you want change the balance.

As for red-eye reduction: the flash triggers a pre-flash to have the pupils closed as a reaction of the light, then the main flash and exposure is triggered. Too much ding-dong for my taste. Read a bit about it, maybe, on the internet, e.g. here - see the paragraph "Using the red-eye reduction capabilities built into many modern cameras ...".

I usually dial in -0.5 to -1 flash compensation for fill flash, but I suggest you do some testing yourself. It will also depend on things like ambient light and not least backlight.

Paparazzi dial in +100 and hope for the best :ROTFL:
