I know--got this info before--but, sadly, they are all out of my budget LOL.

So, how the lens is designed with regard to "bokeh distribution" may depend in part on the designer's assumptions on how the lens will be used!
Yup, that's the way it is. Or I think it is like that in general. Maybe some lenses renders the OOF parts both in the back- and foreground ugly. It is not strange a Nikon publication points it out as they would like us to use their DC lenses...

In general I very much prefer lenses having the good bokeh in the background. The Pentax 50mm lenses with good foreground bokeh and ugly background bokeh always drove me nuts.

I would like to thank you for all the comparison images! The CV50/1.5, again, seem to mix a nice balance between detail, contrast and bokeh. Regards, /Jonas

Here are few more samples of 50mm. This time its a big tuna - Schneider 50mm f0.95.
All shots are at f0.95 except last one which was shot at f2.

Nice shots, Photomorgana, using the fast Schneider lens. My image was recorded by Lumix G1 + Summicron M 50mm during my recent conference travel to Macau. Thank you for looking. Leica 77

Leica77, I like the bokeh and sharpness of your summilux. Which version is it. E43, E46, Asph?

    Hello Photomorgana,
Many thanks for your positive feedback. The lens is a Summicron M 50mm (E39). One of these days, I hope to purchase a Summilux M 50mm lens. The bokeh seen in your images are extraordinary!!! Lecia 77

    Hi Leica 77,
Thank you and I like your pix a lot, especially the first one, great composition and bokeh. Sorry, I thought you have the Lux. But Cron is not bad at all and maybe even sharper at f2 than Lux at the same aperture. I was wondering if there is a big difference between Asph and pre Asph Luxes, in sharpness and bokeh. Id think sharpness should be better, but bokeh might be worse with Asph version. One day I might afford both and see for myself

Great portrait! Very fast lens but the first photo has a little weird backround.
    Very special.

Here is one of mine with Zeiss 50mm 1.8 wide open.

Very nice shots Diane. I'm impressed with the sharpness of that 50 wide open.

Here are couple of photos taken today (the same day I finally got my adapter ) These are from walking on the Burke Gilman trail to Trader Joe's here in Seattle. Yes we finally had some sun.

All of these were taken with the Olympus Zuiko 50mm macro lens.

Thank you f6cvalkyrie. It seems the second shot looks oversharpened now that it has been uploaded to this site. Though all that broken glass was sharp

One from last night, using 50mm f/1.5 Nokton on Panasonic G1:

Strictly speaking, I should have waited until her back arm was more aligned with her front arm... but I was afraid the moment would get away.

And for you pixelologists, something to peep:

All I can say is that if those big-dollar Leica 50s are significantly sharper at full aperture than the Nokton, they must be pretty darn stellar...

Beautiful shot--I like the inclusion of the backstage waiting dancer on the left.

Using Schneider Xenoplan 50mm f2.8. Good Lens that damn hard to focus. I need a heliocoid later on.

    Yes, more flowerish shots :sleep006:
Just received this lens today. It was late with not so much light, will have to check some more.
Very sturdy lens with smooth focussing. Shot wide open.

Ah, I understand now *smile*. His wooden shoes from The Netherlands and your Matruchki from Russia. They both make good subjects--the Matruchki are great for shallow DOF. I also like Michiel's origami.

Time to put some new life in this thread. Went out wit my VC Nokton on my new Jinfinance adapter. Focus on infinity is not perfect.
Fits very nice on the G1 and it is not bigger as the kitlens.

A quite interesting one that I like. Being able to discern those very subtle tones around the head may make a difference for some folks. Its just very graphic--and I like it very much.

Just a bit ago, on the 40 f/1.8 thread, I started to post that I found it interesting that I rarely shot with a similar FOV with my 5D or my other Canon bodies (similar as far as a prime goes would be my 85 f/1.8 for the 5D). I found I was about to lie LOL--when I did a metadata search in LR. How soon we forget LOL.

    Thanks Diane!

This FoV ... short-portrait tele or around 80mm on 135 format ... has been one of my favorites for many years. I shot with a Nikon FM using just an 85 and a 35 mm lens exclusively for nearly two years, once upon a time! :-)

    Aloha,

these are not really worthy of being published here, they are just the first shots using the new Leica R - MFT adapter from JR with my trusty old 50mm Summicron - works just fine, infinity is also perfect. Pictures at f2.0, jpgs straight from the camera, one in the shade, one in the sun.

I shot 4 frames of the Columbine with the G1 and Oly 50 f/2 macro and blended them with Helicon Focus.

You are a genius with the flower shots. You have a wonderful eye and thus your images have great composition and the colors are just wonderful.

It is so interesting to me that the color palette of the G1may be the best in the industry (DSLR's) today. I love my D3X (just getting used to it actually) but the color palette is not as subtle as the G1.

    Great stuff girl

Thank you, Woody. That is quite a compliment coming from you.
I just love the G1. It makes macro a breeze. When I shot the 4 frames, I was able to magnify in on just the points that I wanted to target and leave the background OOF.

    Just popped in to look
    Lots of lovely shots.
Godfrey - the two black and whites are fabulous
Cindy - love the columbines - excellent.
Raf - I think you'd better buy that macro lens!

    Just this guy you know

Here s an image I really like. The composition, the graphic image, the narrow band of greyscale, all good. The tilted "horizon" is not to my taste but is an easy fix. It is also nice to see something different.
