    Interesting Michael!

I have an image that I posted here about a year ago where a little yellow flower bush was seen growing from a crack in the outcropping from Page AZ where there was virtually no sign of life except for the bush.

I called the image "Clinging to Life" as though the bush was actually clinging to the outcropping for its sustenance and depended on that for its ongoing existence! It was an M8 image that I successfully printed to over 16x20 to get the impact it needed. One of my most proud photographic moments.

Let's hope there are many more like these. I know I am proud of mine and I am sure you are very proud of yours, as you should be.

    Cheers

The will to live has not been sufficient here : this is the last surviving flower on a plant that has been giving us visual pleasure for months. I hope they will be back next year !

Hi happy G1 users with 50mm lenses !

I have the opportunity to get a Schneider Kreuznach Xenon f:0.95 / 50mm in C-mount.
I didn't see the lens yet and I don't know much about it. The owner told me it measures 83mm long and about 60mm diameter. I suppose it is the same as the image below, since this one is described as a modified c-mount to Leica M.

Does somebody has experience and images done with this lens ?
And how much do you think I should pay for it ?

    thanks in advance.

Anymore Jupiter-3 50mm 1.5 photos? I am interested in the G1 so I could use this lens which I currently own and also my M42 lenses.

Its a great lens, I love the bokeh. My is slightly different than on your picture. Maybe older version, maybe different format all together. (mine is heavy, 800gr or so) I would say buy it if its around $1K.
There should be samples on this thread, that I posted earlier.

    Thanks for the feedback.
I found your samples, it's impressive - especially the girl portrait, given it is shot wide open, with still enough DOF (wasn't a little stopped down?).
In order to compare, could you be kind to post a picture of your f:0.95 Xenon, mounted on the G1 ideally?
I'm quite excited with this, since I'm quite sure I can't get it for far far less than 1K...

Yeah, very nice! It is a little soft, just like my Jupiter-9 (M42 mount)
But it sure has character bokeh!

Just a few with the Summicron 50 at the zoo today. I wish there had been a few animals, it was too hot outside and they were all hiding somewhere. Good thing my friends with their kid were there...

Really interesting composition--I just like the visual graphics of it, but then one starts to try and put it in some kind of context. I'm still not sure of that LOL--thinking about my pianos and trying to reconcile--I think I've figured out how/where you shot--but regardless, it stands on its own.

You inspired me with your fine abstraction.
These are two in yellow, may be not so abstract.
With a just arrived lens and I just had to go out and test it.

Nothing exciting but thought I would share a couple from my Canon EF 50 f/1.4--handheld. Obviously a boring shooting day LOL.

end of the line for the echinaceas I set the aperture on the EOS body to f/1.8

    back to f/1.4

This lens (and the 28 f/1.8) aren't terribly unwieldy on the G1, but--the fact that you have to have to set the aperture on an EOS body certainly limits it unless one decides what that would be and live with it for a full period of shooting--maybe f/1.8--since I have an FD 50 f/1.8 which is nice stopped down from there.

No such thing as boring in those photos. They're very nice!

I had the EF 50/1.4 and EF 28/1.8 when I had Canon gear. Both are a good lenses, stopped down even a little from wide open they perform well. Like so many other ultra-fast lenses, wide open is just that hair soft.

But who cares when you make such nice photos with them. :-)

I have both those lenses, which I use on my 40D. I haven't acquired an EOS adapter as of yet, since I am using my Leica M lenses and a handful of Nikkors I still kept around on my G1. Might have to try it ... especially for the 400/5.6.

Here's one I took last evening with a 50/1.4 Summilux.

    Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 50/2.8

It delivers a strange bokeh, but I think it is not bad. It is a lens coming from an Edixa-reflex and has a M42 mount. It is very well made.
Here are some samples with the usual flowers

Here are 3 more with the Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 50/2.8

#2 is so delicate and lovely.
I really am a swirly bokeh fan if it looks painterly. My Leica 85mm f/1.5 Summarex often has a painterly swirly bokeh, too.

I do remember those posts of your Summarex lens in the Leica dep.
    They were oustanding!
Did look at them again. They do have some resemblance in the way they draw.
Do you use that lens on the G1 as well? Would like to see some again.

    Kind regards, michiel

    Michiel,
I haven't taken it out recently, but it will soon be butterfly season here and I'll be using it for that. Here is a shot from last winter in Arizona. (Please excuse this 85mm lens in the 50mm thread.)

Carl, This is a beautiful example of what that lens is capable of. I think it is a very under-appreciated lens. It is very high quality for a reasonable price.

Thank you Leica77 and Cindy. The 50 1.5 Nokton is indeed a very nice lens and it performs well at wider apertures.

    Best regards,
    Carl
