KH the FT lenses( Little & Big Tuna, 50f2, PL14-150) works great with the EM1.3.
Took pics of birds, BIF and portraits.
These lenses did not work well with 1.2 n I took a chance by upgrading to 1.3.
Lucky it paid off.
Below Flickr link has images for your view. Look under TAG and the cam and lens used is indicated.

Hi there Ric,

using my EM1.2 with these FT-lenses; 150/2, 50/1.4, 14-35/2, 7-14/4.
To me they seem to work just fine, although focusing is a bit sluggish.

Could you please explain what didn't work well with your EM1.2 and in what way the EM1.3 improved on that ?

TIA

Thanks, much appreciated.
Did you have to micro-adjust your Little & Big Tuna? TIA.

yes KH I had to micro adjust for all my FT Lenses including both the Tunas. But I am at minus 4 on the EM1.3 vs minus 10 on EM1.2. Moreover I could never get the image tag sharp on the EM1.2.
I think Oly did a good job optimising the EM1.3 for the Little n Big Tunas.

Hi Knorp
Been a while. Hope you staying safe.
Yes I over came the sluggish by selecting the Diamond Shape focus area and use Low Burst Rate for birding. Otherwise I was getting frustrated from from the A9.

I found with the EM1.3 my calibration data for my 4 lenses are from +1 to - 4 for the 300f2.8. With the EM1.2 the 300f2.8 was at - 10. Furthermore the images were not tag sharp on all 4 FT lenses. I think Oly did a good job optimising both the Tunas on the EM1.3 body and the images are tag sharp. I now really enjoy shooting the EM1.3 with FT lenses alongside the A9/7R3.

It’s amazing that when Oly developed the 300f2.8 they only had the E5 to benchmark that lens. Today the 300f2.8 really shines with the EM1.3. I am really happy with the combo.

Hope this helps.

Hi Ric,

Many thanks. Your findings are very encouraging.
Really tempted to get the E-M1.3 for my 4 FT lenses.
BTW, any experience with the FT 1.4x and 2x TCs? TIA.
That would get me the extra reach I can’t get with my A9 + FE 400/2.8 + TCs. :salute:

I bought the EM1.3 solely for my 4 FT lenses and to get a longer reach too.
There are other nice features on the EM1.3 that we birder may not use but I found the Pro Capture High feature very useful. Infect this feature compliments the A9 very well. With 20fps we get many action shots but with 60 fps we get 3 times more action shots compare to the A9. I recently shot Barbet nesting and man the different action shots I got I could not get close with the A9.

Here are samples shot with EM1.3/300f2.8 no TC

Yes it works very well with the 1.4 and 2.0 TCs. I often shot with the 2.0 TC.

These were shot with the EM1.3/300f2.8. I recall you have the 7R3/100-400 and you may wish to pitch it against the EM1.3/300f2.8.

When the 2X TC is still insufficient reach for smaller birds I often resort to 2X digital Zoom. Here is one taken with EM1.2/300f2.8 with 2X TC and 2X Digital Zoom. Original image was soft as I was not able to do a good job calibrating the lens plus the extended reach. For a record shot it decent.

No brainer get the EM1.3 and your Oly system will compliment your Sony very well. For starter extended reach and awesome IQ. Then there is Pro Capture which gives you lots of joy doing super fast action BIF shots.. I have tested the system for tracking BIF and I have better keepers compared to EM1.2. But A9 is still King Of The Sky. With more practise I am sure it can be improved. Danny from m4/3 DPR Forum takes great BIF using his EM1.2 with Canon 600f4?. Gear is important and Danny has the skills for BIF which I am unlikely to acquire in this life time. 76 this coming August. Thats why I bought into Sony to close my skill gap for BIF. LOL.

BTW Can you please advise how I can link my Flickr postings to this forum. I will PP the Barbet shots to share with you.
Thank you

Stay safe everyone.

I just got the EM1.3 and the new 12-45/4 lens, still need to get used to the slight changes in button locations.

Hand-held high-resolution (HR) mode works quite well. The main issues with HR files are that I need to filter the files before importing them to LR (delete JPG, rename .ORI to .ORF) and that I need to use O-Transformer to demosaic as LR doesn't do a good job.

EM1.3 has rekindled my love affair with m43 system.

Many thanks Ric. Your feedback is much appreciated.
Sorry, I didn’t get back to you earlier.

I stopped using Flickr a long time ago.
So unfortunately I can’t help you with your question.
I am using smugmug and copy or link an image to GetDPI via a button.

I don’t know whether GetDPI lets you link to Flickr or not. Sorry.
