Great shots, Rafael, though I'm especially biased in favour of your pair of griffins :-)

Some from Oregon. I was borrowing this lens but would love to get one in my kit.

GF1 plus Panny 7-14 lens. One thing to note is this lens seems to have higher native contrast than its sisters do...

    At around 13mm:

At 7mm and a special-sauce CS treatment for 70's style color:

    Some random shots:

(In the full image you can easily read the writing on the old guy's hat in the lower corner --- this lens is very sharp.)

And it can be tough to keep your toes out of the images even if you're trying :

    Thanks Diane,

It's actually pretty easy to do in Photoshop. A color layer set to overlay mode over a B&W version of the image, with B&W tonality and layer opacities tweaked to suit.

Those all look terrific, Jack! I imagine you're going to have some good photo ops up there in Boston for Veteran's day (if you're still there?)

(Darn, I wish I could afford this lens ... )

Oh, well, so much for that, eh? I am a transplanted Yankee living in Florida, miss New England a lot. And I am really attracted to anything that has a maritime flavor (maybe being in the Navy for 6 years intensified that, lol) love ships and the sea and everything related to them.

Okay I am banning myself from this thread. Just looking at the 7-14mm shots and the few times I shot with it in Oregon I really want one. Also divorce is more expensive so I better not hit the buy button. LOL

Not me. I'm in. I was considering something similar for my D700, but I prefer the footprint of the GF1 to my D700, so the 7-14 is it.

    Jack,
Did you add additional 7-14's ? I could have sworn when I first looked there were only two shots posted. I'm most partial to the rope. I do like this lens and was really glad I just went for it from Bill in Canada when he first got it in. Even being so wide I find it to be very versatile and used very often.

    Thanks Amin!

Hi Terry, I posted them all at basically the same time, but loaded the thread with the first two images then added the rest over the next few minutes, so you must have looked as I was sorting the second batch.

    I haven't even received the 20mm f1.7 I ordered yet and already I'm dreaming of the 7-14mm.

Ha! Just checked my Amazon.com account and the 20mm lens was shipped today! I didn't think it would be available until December. Now how much was that 7-14mm????

Mine was to arrive today but the Post Office is closed. These pictures are really nice with good sharpeness for a lens that does 7mm (14mm eq)

So the 7-14 is in stock at Amazon right now for $1100... So a few shots to tempt those on the sidelines:

Must buy lens... Must buy lens...

Nice series Ken! Though I'm a little puzzled by the color on the third one -- do the pink clouds in the background look like they have an odd color layer, or is it just my eyes?

I'm not thrilled with the color processing on the third, I was thinking I might need to revisit it and based on the feedback I guess it is back to the drawing board!

Brian, are you thinking it is looking unsharp at this small a size or just ugly colors/composition/something else?

    Thanks for the feedback!

Ken, the bottom left corner looks smeared/out of focus?

The other two have got me hovering on the 'buy' button... outstanding!

Thanks for sharing, these are terrific.

Also, Jack and Guy you've both done excellent sets... which raw converter did you use?

Ah, that could be. I actually was shooting other compositions when I quickly decided to do a vertical composition in this direction. Tripod mounted, but composed and shot very quickly and I wouldn't be surprised at all if I didn't get the DOF and focus point quite right.

I know on another board you just recently posted "Friends don't let friends pixel peep..." but at the risk of not being considered your friend here are links to full resolution versions of each photo:

    Dead Wood Full Res

    Moving Rock Full Res

    Devil's Golf Course Full Res

If you are interested you can PM me and I'll be happy to put up the RAW files on a site for you to download so you can use your own processing/sharpening work flow (you seem a trustworthy guy ).

If you're using Photoshop simply try "Auto Colour". It does more than just adjust the colours and I wouldn't say it's perfect nine times out of ten but I run all my shots through the Auto Colour just to see what the program thinks and believe me, it saves a lot of wasted time in many instances and it's just a click away. It's one of those commands that because it includes the dreaded word "Auto" many disregard it with an "only-wimps-use-auto" attitude; wrong move

Hi Ken, you're very kind - these full size jpegs are fine... I can definitely see some smearing right in the corners, which is most obvious in the last shot.

It's good to know what to expect, I don't think it's a show stopper!

    Cheers

    Re: G1 with 7-14mm - show yours !!!!!

I'm seriously thinking of selling my 20 and my kit lens to buy this lens only. If I can find a 7-14 at a good price. I am pushing the 14mm on the kit lens to go wider every time and I'm not using the 20mm all that much. Of course this is my fun kit so it may not matter past 14mm but a 7-14 and new 45mm maybe the ticket.

I'm not after a fast lens like the 20mm. Anyone that may want to trade me let me know soon before my buy button starts itching again.

Unsettled weather typical for late November here. Two shots with the 7-14 on the G1.

    Ugh. So I see some with a GF-1, some with a G1.

You 4/3 pros noticing any difference between the two working with this awesome lens?

I'm considering the following for a kit:
G1, 7-14, 20, and a nikon adaptor to work with my old 35-70 and 105 DC.

Some of these shots have me questioning my Nikon FX stuff for anything but pro work.

I don't have too many with this lens and people, but here are some family snapshots in case you find them useful:

of course, an UWA lens isn't going to be ther first choice for formal portraits, but it is certainly possible to make nice "people" pics with it.
Especially when children and funny situations are the subject.

Here's an example from last summer, with our son Artėm
