What is really scary is this place. It's actually very sad and depressing if you think about it back in the 70's this was a huge recreation area with boats and fishing plus all the summer fun for kids. All gone and it really should be named a Dead Sea.

Story is the Colorado river broke the dam and flooded it out, as it is today the only fish and they are dying all over the place is Tilapia and some brine shrimp. Nothing else survives here the salinity levels are so high nothing really can make it. It's also a economical disaster which in turn makes it a completely dead waste of land and water. As you drive around you can imagine the life this place once had and it is really sad to see theses results some 30 -40 years later. Not one person in this group will ever order that fish off a menu any time soon. And yes the place smells

As I understand this was a rich agricultural valley. After the dams broke they thought the sea would be gone in 10 years (now more than 100).

The file larger looks much better and the clouds aren't clipped. So, something in my jpeg conversion is making this sort of worse than it is. I need to go back in with your actions and play around.

    Mike,
I would love to see your whole Salton Sea gallery when you are done. You've got these great shots with a different perspective than many of us. It is great to see everyone's take on the same area.

Jack, Terry and Guy, thanks for your comments. I'll have to figure out how to construct a gallery but I'll get it done.

In general, a jpeg will clip bright skies as some of the yellow band is OOG. One thing that can help a bit is to dial your max curves output to around 250-252 before you convert it.

Here is a set that I think illustrates the changing moods of the Salton Sea. Clearly the mood here changes daily, but on this particular moarning it changed minute by minute. These three shots are taken over the course of about 12 minutes as the Sun rose and processed pretty much straight out of the camera.
