    Speaking for me personally, I find the noise in the masked areas a bit distracting...

    Yeah... I have a vignette action that I wrote the I should run before I add any grain in post... can you tell I got it backwards. Ended up accentuating the noise along the edge of the image when I ran it after I added grain.

    Those areas weren't masked though (at least for sharpening... a bit for the vignette, though)

    The DOF and sharpness were attained in the field...
