    All about Bodie

Inspired by the Bodie Photos from Jack's workshop I think Bodie is worth its own thread. Please share all your Bodie photos here. I find it an amazing place.

Just to clarify so there is no confusion for future readers, it was both Guy's and my workshop, not just Jack's workshop .

    Folks can see some of the Bodie images we and our participants got here: http://forum.getdpi.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20444;

and here, but you may want to navigate to the last few pages as this is a very long thread: http://forum.getdpi.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4730

    Cheers,

Here's one from a couple of years ago. I wish that there had been clouds in the sky when I visited.

We had one evening session with this dark stormy sky for more than an hour. No rain at Bodie itself (which can be messy).

What amazes me is how little that car has changed in 18 years. Here's a shot of it from my very first trip to Bodie in 1992. (FWIW, I think it's a 1937 Chevy Business Coupe):

Thank you UWE , MARK and JACK
for showing your wonderful images from Bodie . I enjoy them very much .

As I did not know , what Bodie stands for , in my todays restless night , I was searching internet and learned a lot about the "wild south west" of Northern America .
Of course , I would like to see this place and others and also shoot there , although already millions of images were taken at this place .

Also very interesting for all http://www.ghosttowngallery.com
    Regards . Jürgen .

    Re: All about Bodie

To no surprise Bodie is ideal for B&W (as Jack's images show).

    Uwe,

Missed this comment of yours originally. Yes, mail stop was a very popular image from all my Bodie images. However, Casino at night was, is and has by far been the most popular image of all of my Bodie shots:

    Re: All about Bodie

And here is perhaps my most controversial image from Bodie -- look closely at it:

I had originally named this image "Doc's at Lunch" because of the implied humor, doctor's bag sitting on the bar suggesting the doctor was drinking his lunch. Then several years later when showing these images to fellow Bodie photographer, he asked me what was going on in the mirror. I didn't know what he was talking about, until all at once I saw it: If you look in the mirror behind the bar, at the dining table behind the pool table toward the upper RH corner, you can see what appears to the shadowy shape of a man hunched over the table eating lunch. I debated changing the name to "Doc's Ghost" but figured that was too much of a cliché, so I simply made it "Bar Ghost" and let the viewers who notice the shadowy spot decide if it's a reflection anomaly or an apparition.

Some way fun and cool images here! I love photographing these old ghost towns myself. Never been to Bodie, but its one that seems to get a lot of attention.

    Jack,

quite a few of your shots were taken inside during a special workshop. How is it inside today?

The last time I was there and inside was about 7 years ago -- and then it was *very* dusty compared to 5 years earlier. However, they do continual "light maintenance" to keep the town in a state of "arrested decay" -- for example, the barber pole in front of the barber shop next to the casino in my night shot, now has a fresh coat of red and white paint on it... Along with that and from looking in windows, it appeared this time they'd maybe gone through the buildings with a yard blower on low to freshen them up a bit

This seems so special about Bodie. Is a result of being a State Park.
