Just for fun - take a try with some gear ill-suited for the project and see what happens.
These were taken with a 300 mm lens at Elkhart track in Wisconsin. It was kind of a test to see how it would do - in a world which it was not suited for. The max shutter was 1/500, MLU, on a monopod.. max shutter speed, leaf shutter at 200 or 400 iso. Not much more one could do... DOF is limited, shooting around f 11/16.
All were deeply cropped to less than 1/3 of the image. The first one is a really long shot.
Ended up OK: the back has lots of resolution and allows for cropping and thus exact composition (espec. with MLU and a monopod) isn't necessary. The 300 is sharp as a tack. Something workable actually came out?
