Shutter count on Canon Rebel XT / Kiss / EOS 350D

A couple of years ago a relative purchased a Canon Digital Rebel XT - in Japan known as a Canon EOS Kiss n Digital - and in Europe known as a Canon EOS 350D (why make it easy).

In fact DSLR photography never caught his interest and the camera has hardly been used at all. Now he has asked me to help him sell the camera and thus I need to find the true amount of actuations.

I have taken three consecutive jpeg captures and the exif data look like this using Opanda's IExif viewer.

As far as I recall I need to look at position three in row 0093 and here I see this third position moving up: 74 >> 75 >> 76

Is this the true shutter count ... ?

Another possibility is that the filenumbers are identical with the true shutter count, i.e. 842 >> 843 >> 844, but these numbers could very well just be due to the use of the CF card in another camera.

Does anyone know how to read the total shutter count out of the exif data of a Rebel XT jpeg file ?

I can't help you with that program your using.
I use exif viewer.

You could send me an image and I could look for you. Or search for EXIF Viewer online. It is a small quick program to install..
Sometimes it doesn't work properly so I question its accuracy.


P.S. CS 3 has a lot of info viewable but no actuation counter.
Maybe someone here can point you in the right direction. There has to be a good accurate one out there..

Now I can't guarantee that these are 100% accurate. Al I know is that it works and is accurate for my 1Ds but not for my 5D.. Every image from the 5D says its anywhere from 1 thru 5. and nothing else..

That is exactly the same result I got with Opanda IExif viewer in the third position of line 0093.
So apparently the camera has had a total of 76 actuations since it was bought two and a half years ago
And now the camera is worth less than nothing. What a waste.
Oh well, I'll just have to try to help my relative sell it as well as possible.
