Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands

Hi Everyone,

I recently (Dec. 2010) returned from an expedition to Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands. It was an amazing trip. Actually, that is an understatement.

When I was planning our trip, I found a lot of useful travel and photography information - and I would like to share it with you, along with my experience with what worked, and what did not. I have written a 25 part series on the whole experience - I just thought it might help someone out who is planning a voyage to this part of the world.

We traveled with Quark Expeditions, however, I believe many other Antarctic operators stop at the same places. Anyway, here it is:

If you have any questions, I am happy to try and answer them.

Best wishes and if you get the chance to visit this part of the world, do it - you will never regret it.

Hi Gerry,

My pleasure. It was an amazing trip... especially as a photographer. There are so many things to see and photograph!

Roel, I read all 25 installments and really enjoyed them. I felt like I was there
with you. Your photos are beautiful, especially the black and white landscapes.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. As you can tell, it was an amazing trip. The photo opportunities are incredible and just the opportunity to see this part of the world ... well, words cannot describe it.

It is an expensive trip to take - and if any of you ever have the opportunity to visit (especially if you love serene landscapes and plenty of wildlife), you must go! I was hesitant by the cost at first, however, it was more than worth the money we spent.
