Total Eclipse in August

I am reading a number of articles about the total eclipse that passes through the entire country next August. It got me thinking about planning a photograph trip; not to just take a picture of an eclipse, but to put the eclipse in a photo with a landscape. It just happens that the eclipse passes through Yellowstone and the Tetons. Has anyone had any experience with a total eclipse and a landscape picture? Would a double exposure be required- one for the eclipse, and a second for the mountains? Thanks for your ideas.

Ultra wide angle works at the point of full eclipse you will have a black dot in the center of the sun. To actually see anything on the sun you will need special filters, and that will preclude any landscape images. When the Sun is full eclipsed there are some amazing views of the solar corona, but it will be like dusk and you will be able to see stars.

Also during the majority of the eclipse time the sun will be very high in the sky, so only really wide angles will be able to include the sun. Look up Alan Dyer, he has an ebook about shooting the sun and covers everything from wide angle to closeups. Quite cheap. For free do a search for Mr. Eclipse, Fred Espaniak (not sure of exact spelling) Google will get you there.

Oh and places like the Tetons and Yellowstone, etc, have been completely booked way more than a year in advance. Good luck finding places, especially is places like Cody, Wy. etc. It is a very big deal to a lot of people. People from all over the world are going to be converging, there will be traffic jams etc.
