Tanzania Safari - Ngorongoro Park

Headed to climb Kilimanjaro and then a short 2 day safari.

Normally I only use my Leica M9 and 50mm, for portraits.

Of course, this isnt going to work well for the elephants and giraffes!

What camera/lens do you all recommend I take for this trip? Id like full frame and also would like to keep it light. 2 lenses max.

Likely will rent it somewhere.

Thank you!

Hi,

My suggestion would be take one lens and one body and that would be Nikon 200-500 zoom and a nikon body of your choice.

This will cover 90% all you may need.

It all depends on the purpose of your trip. Some I know managed with much less...

Kili...

Safari...

In the end, it comes down to ' how close is close '. Only you can answer that.

Enjoy the trip.

i haven't made it to Ngorongoro yet but I hear it's pretty wide open in most places. I went on a safari a few years back in Uganda and most of my wider shots were with short to medium telephotos (85-135mm range) and most of the Safari was taken with the longest lens I had with me which was a 180mm lens. When I go on another I will be sure to have something with a long end in the 400-600 range for the birds.
