    Japan in June 2009

I have a destination wedding in Japan at the end of June 2009. In Narita. I am not able to take much time for myself on this trip because of my obligations here in CA, but will have about a day to myself in Narita prior to the event. And maybe this limitation is good, as I understand Japan can be quite expensive. I also don't want to overextend myself, as my primary focus is to my clients. I will be staying at the New Sanno Hotel.

Anyone have any suggestions/recommendations on worthwhile short excursions in Narita, Japan?

You'll need some time to get rid of the jetlag, so I suggest you take it easy and not go on any day trip. Your hotel looks like it's in Azabu, Tokyo, which is more than an hour away from Narita. I hope you've got the venue right! Narita itself is a quiet little town with the Naritasan temple its major attraction. Azabu is close to Roppongi, Ginza and Akihabara. You can easily spend the day in Yodobashi camera in Akihabara, if you're not careful!

    Cheers,

    Thanks, Kumar!

The wedding is actually at the New Sanno Hotel; I'm flying into Narita. I'll have about a half-day to get settled in and rest---and a full-day to myself---but still don't want to go too far or overexert myself prior to the event!

Holy cow! Just Google searched Yodobashi Camera Store----that place is like Fry's on steroids---lots of steroids....

It looks like the closest station is Hiroo. That's actually only about a 15 minute walk from where I live. To get there I'd recommend taking the Narita Express to Shibuya then taking a taxi (make sure you have the address printed out). If the airport bus leaves soon, that's probably a good idea too.

If you haven't been to Japan there are a lot of things to see without leaving Tokyo. You'll be jet lagged, so the Tsukiji market in the morning is nice. You can check out the Meiji Shrine at Harajuku. Shibuya and shinjuku are close by. The Yodabashi in Shinjuku is also huge. You could also head to Asakusa. If you are into used camera equipment check out Fujiya Camera. http://www.fujiya-camera.co.jp/. If you are interested in going there I can help with the directions.

That's what I was thinking, too. This being the first time in Japan, combined with the short schedule and toss time-warp/jet-lag into the mix ...

I suggest you concentrate on getting as much sleep whenever you can. Any free time you have just start walking around your hotel. You are going to be in a culture that is literally 180-degrees from western culture, but is westernizing rapidly, so you will see things familiar but in a different way.

Japanese tend to be very tolerant of visitors, and very helpful. So if you get lost, just ask for directions. Don't be surprised if someone escorts you all the way to your destination.

Thanks! ...and noting the travel destination and limited free-time is why I do want to stay closer to the hotel and not over exert myself! The Yodabashi camera store might overexert my wallet....

Im headed to Japan pretty soon. Gonna be backpacking it alone.

I havent worked out what exactly to do yet, mostly just exploring blindly.
Anyone got any tips? Some travel suggestions and things to see would be nice.
