Fun With The 18-55MM

My 18-55mm arrived just the other day and I've not really had a chance to take it out other than late last night. I drove to Dallas to see what it could do at night without a tripod.

ISO on these shots was 2000 to 2500. Shutter speeds were from 1/8s to 1/60s

Here we go....

The IOS of the 18-55 makes it much easier to use in low light situations. Thus far I have no real complaints about the 18-55. Seems to live up to all I have read about it.

I agree Jim. The 18-55 is definitely a keeper. I like the primes but since I received my X-E1/18-55 kit I've actually had the zoom on my X-Pro1 ever since and the 35/1.4 on the X-E1. Funnily enough the zoom is very well balanced on the X-Pro1 vs the X-E1 and vice-versa the 35/1.4 feels ideal on the X-E1.

Btw, love the ability to shoot the X-Pro1 in available darkness.

jim, i love the shot of the trees lit up and all of that lovely bokeh in the background.

i haven't had much chance to use the 18-55 or the x-e1 yet, but here's one from both that i took on the 12th. tonight's candlelight service will be my first chance to use them in low light.

Loving the X-E1 and the 18-55. Low light shooting with the X-E1 18-55 is much better than I expected having heard stories about how wonky the auto focus can be. It was focusing in the dark for me if I was able to find an area of contrast to focus on.

I think the 18-55mm is quite good for a zoom. Not sure about the focusing sometimes.

A couple of casual walkabout shots with the 18-50 on the X-E1. Raws converted in AccuRaw (Luma/Chroma both at 0.5) and tuned in LR4.3.
